Wedding Weekend Accommodations

July 11th, 2007 @ 6:19 pm by Mrs. Onion

Although my fiance and I are both from Connecticut (our parents live 10 minutes from each other) and we now live in NYC, we decided to get married in Burlington, Vermont. Five months after we started dating we decided to take a little vacation but didn’t have a ton of money or time to plan. So we decided to take a driving tour of New England (what better way for me to get better at driving a gear shift car?) as I’d never spent any time in our “own back yard” as it were.

We booked a number of Bed and Breakfasts in Vermont (southern and northern), New Hampshire and Maine. Of all the places that we stayed we really loved Burlington! We spent two nights at a stunning 1880’s mansion called the Willard Street Inn.

Here we are in the back garden of the inn on that trip (August 2005):

The inn is really stunning and each room is unique and quaint without being “too country” if you know what I mean. It was just right for us!

From the back garden on a sunny day:

On an overcast day (when we went back in Oct. 06 for our engagement photo session with Daria Bishop). We’re actually in this photo — look closely!

The room we picked for the “brial suite”:

We’re taking over the inn’s 14 rooms for the weekend of the wedding and I’m sooo looking forward to spending this time with our family and closest friends. I’d highly recommend the Willard Street Inn for a romantic get-away (no kids under 12). Perhaps a mini-moon? Some leaf peeping?

That looks lovely! We were tempted to do something similar on Block Island. We stayed at the Blue Dory Inn last fall just before we got engaged and loved it. Block Island is popular for weddings, there was one at the inn while we were there, in fact. We had a celebratory drink with the couple (older couple, 2nd marriages) and their guests after the wedding. Nice people. However, we decided that logistically it was too difficult. Glad you guys managed it!

Very cool that you are able to have your wedding in a location that has such great memories. I, personally, love mansion weddings ’cause you don’t see random non-guest wandering around.

We invited 68 (70 with the two of us) but it’s looking like we’ll be about 58 or 60. We’re still getting RSVP’s so I’ll keep you posted.

Just to clarify — we aren’t getting married at the inn (although that was our first idea) due to their zoning and parking rules –boo! We are getting married at a church in Burlington then hosting our reception at a restaurant. More to come on that later.

we did something similar in the outerbanks, NC. we rent a huge home where most of the wedding party stayed and later my parents. We did have the reception on site, but I did love having our friends around us.

Our 1 Year Anniversary… » Weddingbee

[...] Ok, you’re thinking, “Mrs. Onion… didn’t you just get married?” Why yes I did — just six months ago. So why am I talking about our 1 year anniversary already (other than I’m excited to eat our cake that has been safely in MIL Onion’s freezer since September)? Yesterday I got an email from the manager at the Willard Street Inn where we stayed for the weekend of the wedding. [...]
