Sleeping Beauty Dress

Leave it to Disney to design a line of wedding dresses. I say this, of course, as an annual-pass-carrying member who has been to nearly all the Disney parks in the world (Disneyland/CA Adventures, Disney World, Disneyland Paris, & Tokyo Disney). But wedding dresses…I must admit I didn’t see it coming. And these are offered at couture prices ($1,100 to $3,500).

Belle Dress

Let me preface this: I love Disney. I love the movies, the Princesses…the marketing. I mean, who doesn’t want to eat a pretzel in the shape of Mickey Mouse?? But something about this is taking it too far… Although, I guess, if you can get married at the park, pay $2,500 to be brought up main street in Cinderella’s carriage and have Prince Charming’s footman be your ring bearer, why not have a dress for the occasion?! Now, I haven’t decided my opinion on the dresses. In one sense, I really want them to recreate the dresses from the movies (man, I love the dress Sleeping Beauty wears–although nobody in the world has her proportions…perhaps that’s true of ALL the princesses though). And in another sense, I appreciate what they’re going for in trying to capture the “essence” of the character (and with this tactic, they can keep churning out dresses and aren’t limited to merely what the characters wear in the movie).

Is it just me or are these poses a little provocative:

Which dresses would you wear? Should they try to mimic the dresses from the movies or capture the essence of the character?

I love the Belle and Jasmine dresses. I don’t think I would go around telling anyone I had a Disney dress though.

If I had $1-3000 for a wedding dress, I would get a REAL couture dress. In my opinion, these are really ordinary dresses with extraordinary prices. Not to say they are not pretty, just not worth those prices…..

oh, to answer your questions: the Belle dress and do both, have a movie replica version as well as “essence of” dresses.

Awww…I just loved Belle…I always wanted that dress too, but yeah, maybe not for my wedding. They did a great job though!

The Jasmine dress is pretty, but I would be so embarrassed to admit that I wore Disney Couture to my wedding. I’m guessing the line will do well enough though, as there seem to be a whole lot of adults who are REALLY into Disney, for whatever reason.

i agree with Red. i like the dresses, but i’m sure i could find something similar much cheaper. but i would be kinda fun to have a Princess dress. i like Belle’s though.

I don’t think that the dresses do much to capture the essence, to tell you the truth. I have been a die hard Belle fan my entire life, and I don’t see much of her in that dress. Just my thoughts, though!

I like the Belle dress. I love Disney so much that it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if I wore a Disney wedding dress :P

If I had to pick my dress from this bunch, I’d go for either Snow White or Belle….. but I agree with AMK that I’d feel embarrassed to tell people that I was wearing a Disney dress! Just because the name evokes images of mouse ears and kiddie rides…..

I think Disney actually missed a great opportunity here by putting these in such a high price range. The dresses are pretty (much to my own surprise!) and would catch on a lot more in the $200-500 range. There need to more affordable wedding dress options and this could have done wonders for them … the opportunity to make the non-wealthy feel like a princess.

I think they compromised between making the dresses more character like and making them more mainstream, and in the end just came out with something that’s blah and looks like what’s already on the market. There’s nothing about them that stands out enough to tie them back to a character imo, and a princess dress (as AK noted) can be had for much less.

This is so backwards- the wedding dress industry has always been about making the bride feel/look like a princess- pretty much, meaning the storybook ones we know as Disney characters. Dresses are even called “princess” style, Cinderella style, etc. So, there is really nothing Disney can do here that isn’t already done a million times, except stick some mickey mouse ears on the label. They just look like regular wedding dresses- some that that I like, but all pretty ordinary.

i like the belle and sleeping beauty dress but they look more like evening gowns, they look too plain for my taste if to be used for a wedding.

I think the magic these dresses have - if any - is in their similarity to dresses worn by characters. They aren’t that outstanding as dresses but, for better and worse, I do see what they are trying to do.

But they have messed up a bit. They should stick to the character dresses and not muddle them up, and I would have to see the quality of the fabrics and such before commenting on the pricing. It would be a real gimmick to have $500 dresses at couture pricing, but if they are actually using couture techniques and expensive fabrics then maybe its right.

I like the Jasmine and Belle dresses. But I’m with a lot of you, I don’t know if I would tell people it’s a Disney dress.

And all the dresses seem more “inspired” by the look of the movies instead of recreating the actual dress.

Oh! You didn’t put up the Aurora dress! That was my favorite.

If I have found that dress before mine, I would have worn it (I say that without looking at the price tag). I just loved the dresses. :)
