Reader Buzz: Budget Overages

July 12th, 2007 @ 7:53 pm by Reader Buzz

Commenter Red had a good point about how most brides exceeded their initial budgets in our Real Reader Budgets post earlier today.  So we’d like to know how much your budget has changed from your initial estimate, to what it is now (mid or post planning).

How close did you stick to your original budget estimate?

I answered “at or very close to” but we began with a +/- $5,000 range.

Ha. we originally started with a $5000 budget for a small wedding, but then decided to invite my ginormous family… we came up with a budget for that, only to have it be blown for good last month. now we have about two months to go.

sometimes i think about it and feel dirty. :p

We didn’t have a budget to start with (and by that I mean no number to shoot for, not an unlimited fund) so none of the above, or N/A :)

i’m on the large side… from LA/Orange County, started with 300 guests and started with 35k, creeping up to 330.. possibly even 350 and more like 50k now. we’re paying for it all ourselves.

We originally were shooting for $5k. But, our initial “budget” with all the breakdowns came to $3,500. But, now we are going to hit about $5k. So, I said “at or very close to”

Bride of Rochester - we’re getting married in Rochester too!

Anyway, we started with a ~10k budget, but we also started thinking there was no way we’d have over 125 people to invite when we first got engaged. Yeah, well 8 months later, we invited 195. :-p At one month out, we’re expecting around 150-160 or so though.
