This is my first blog about the flowers at my wedding! At first I thought that flowers would be among the lowest of my priorities for the wedding. Yet, just like every other aspect of the wedding, once I started planning I found myself wanting everything to be perfect…
Our coordinator at the O’Donnell House gave us two recommended florists. I contacted each of them and instantly took a liking to one in particular (Artisan Gardens - Moira). In talking to her, she was both down-to-earth and also on the same page with me in the look I want to create.
What look would that be, you ask. Well, after making a chart, gathering clippings and compiling a packet to give the florist (yes, this wedding has made me increasingly neurotic), I pinpointed what I wanted: the overall look should be romantic, natural, loose, rustic, and delicate. I don’t want the bouquets to be tightly wound up or perfectly shaped–instead, I want a more natural feel with delicate flowers and wildflowers. In terms of color, we want mostly muted pinks and whites, with green and brown (perhaps with splashes of other colors).

She sent us her proposal a few weeks ago for our perusal. Here are the basics:
-Bride’s Bouquet - “Romantic style; loose floral cascade featuring shades of antique pink and white flowers of the season”
-Maid of Honor & Bridesmaid Bouquets - “fashioned similar to Bride’s bouquet, featuring more pinks and greens”
-Flower girl - “simple hair ring of pink antique roses” & petals to be tossed
-Corsages (5 - for mothers & grandmothers)
-Boutonnieres - “tiny flowers w/bow tie” (11 - groom, groomsmen, fathers & grandfathers)
-Ring Bearers - “mini-rose buds”
-Entry rail & gazebo - decorated with “dry honeysuckle vine w/ greenery & delicate flowers”
-Centerpieces (13) - “14-inch glass hurricanes w/ candle nestled in distinctive greens & seedy grasses; limited flowers”
I’m so excited! As an aside, I really recommend looking at The Knot Book of Wedding Flowers as a great starting-off point. It has tons of pictures (including an A to Z of flower types), and lots of helpful information in determining what look you want, how to talk to the florist, and how to do it on your own…
I thought it might be helpful to include some pictures of the “packet” that I showed to the florist:
