Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

I’m Fine With Forever

July 13th, 2007 @ 4:15 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this “forever” thing. Mr. Kiwi will be my husband forever. Husband. Do you remember when you wished “boyfriend” would be “fiance”? Now that’s he’s my fiance, I’m desperate to call him my husband.

Some days I sit there and silently freak out about pledging my lifelong love to Mr. Kiwi. It’s not that it’s him, it’s just that right now we have our things separate, our accounts, our bills, everything but the address and the dog. When we marry, I’ll be signing the paper binding me to him. Yeesh. Binding. Sometimes I worry about that, like when Mr. Kiwi leaves his dishes in the sink waiting for me to wash them, I think, “Dude, am I seriously doing his dishes for the rest of our lives?” And then…

He comes home late, by eleven, exhausted from working a 13 hour day. I’m slightly grumpy because I missed him, and can’t eat dinner without him (yes, I’m pathetic). He tries to cheer me up, even though I can hear him growing sleepier by the second, after all, he does have to wake up at 5am the next day. Still, he struggles to stay awake and talk to me, minutes growing closer to midnight. Finally, I tell him to go to sleep, and have pleasant dreams. Again, I think to myself, he’s hardly ever home now, and it’s because of me, because of OUR wedding. He has three jobs so we can afford a wedding. This man works himself to exhaustion because we want (seriously, it’s not just me!) a special wedding day.

Finally, as I drift off, I think of all the losers who came after and before him (we dated twice, remember?), the man who showed me what true adoration was when I wasn’t ready for it all those years ago. Not one of those guys would have done this for me, for us. And that’s when I realize - I get to be with this man forever. I am a lucky girl.

And, since I know you all get tired of my wordy posts without pictures, here’s one of Mr. Woofie. :-)

*Woofie gives mom the squinty eyes of doom to say “Of course you are marrying this man, mom! He’s my dad and he’s awesome. So are you. Even though you made me wear this sweater.” then resumes playfully gallivanting about and Hoovering the kitchen floor with his amazing food scrap suction power!

Jill, I totally get you. Mr. Kiwi (and Squinty Mc. Woofman up there) is really the only thing I’m actually SURE of.

I can’t wait to call my fiance my Hubs too! He works so hard and is sacrificing so much just so we can have a nice life when we get married next year. I LOVE the guy! It definitely makes a difference between dating a “boy” and marrying a “man”, doesn’t it? Glad you’ve found your man ;-)

Mr Woofie is adorable.

I thought about forever a lot too, before I was married. I’m forty years old, so I’ve been single a long, long time, and I was used to the idea of being alone, so although I love my husband fiercely, “forever” made me a bit nervous. But then I thought about it the other way: what would the rest of my life be like without Mr Pencils? Just the idea frightened and upset me so much I ran into the other room and had to hug and kiss him. I’m a really lucky woman to have found him, and I can’t believe my luck that he actually loves me back! Giving up my “freedom” is nothing compared to that–I don’t want it anyway anymore, all I want is him. :)
