We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Pocket Pals

July 13th, 2007 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Mr. Kiwi has decided that as well as buying a black suit, he’s also going to wear a vest. So he’s going to be wearing a three-piece suit. He wore a three piece tux for his cousin’s wedding a month ago, and really liked the look, but what’s the use of buying a rust colored tie/vest combo, when you’re never going to use it again?

He likes this look here, but not a tuxedo.

So, he wants the vest, but doesn’t want his best man to wear one. Prima Donna. laughin023 Would it look off if they wear the same thing, a suit with rust tie, same boutonnière and everything else? If we choose that, where the heck can we find a place to sell us at least three ties and one matching vest? Sheesh.

Also, Mr. Kiwi was thinking about a pocket square, but in my Martha Stewart weddings mag, it said to use a pocket square in place of a boutonnière, and not to use both. Hm.

Here is a boutonnière and pocket square look.

And one with just the square.

And lastly, one with just a boutonnière.

Which look do you like best? Vest with pocket square only, vest with boutonnière only, or both?

I like the one with both just fine, actually, but I also like the one with just the bout as well.

I like the one with just the pocket square. I think it looks much more masculine and modern.

I like vest and pocket square for Mr. Kiwi. And no-vest and pocket square for his BM. Let him have his prima donna moment. Why not?
I’m a fan of pocket squares b/c it’s something the guys can keep and it’s modern (like Clarissa says). IMO bouts can be too pricey.

We have 2 tie colors and all wearing dark suits. Groom and 2 groomsmen are wearing orange ties. Dads have sage ties. All are the same texture and maker, all are from Macy’s. The suits are their own - and we’ll pretend like that remotely match. The bridesmaids are just wearing a black dress of their choosing.

I like the last one. But that could be because that is what I plan on doing….But now that I think about it I dont really mind if they have both at mine.

I like bouts better than pocket squares. Maybe only the groom could wear a bout while the GM wear pocket squares. Sort of set him apart even more?

Vest with bout only. I think the pocket square might get lost in the ensemble. I do like his idea though about the rust vest.

I like just the bout. Can he just rent the vest?

We’re doing bout only…FI says they’re more special since he can wear a pocket square any time. He never ever does…but if that’s how he rationalizes it, that’s fine with me.

I like the look of just the pocket square….. sometimes bouts just don’t go with the guy, ya know? I think the pocket squares are classy, plus then you’ll save some money if you do without the bouts.

I love the pocket square but my fiance wears one with a 3-piece suit every time we go out for a nice dinner or to a fancy event. So I think to make his wedding attire more special and a little different, we’ll have just a bout. I do think it’s a bit more special to have a fresh flower rather than a square of fabric.

I think it would look okay with both. It just looks a little weird in the first pic because the color of the bout is so close to the pocket square. But I like the yellowish orange color of the bout in the third pic and I think a white pocket square would look fine with it. And since your colors are similar to that, I’m sure you can find a bout with colors that contrast well with a pocket square. =)

I like the bout only. Not a big fan of the pocket square for a wedding.
