The One With Two Parties

July 13th, 2007 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Corn

This past December, Mr. Corn’s brother got married in a small, rural town in North Western Connecticut. Most of the wedding guests were from out of town and were subsequently invited to the rehearsal dinner the night before the event. Being able to meet so many of the wedding guests the night before the big event helped make the ceremony and reception that much more fun.

All of the guests at our wedding will also be from out of town, but Mr. Corn wasn’t too keen on having such a large rehearsal dinner. Instead, we are having a rehearsal dinner for our family and friends that are participating in the wedding ceremony at a local restaurant, The Mooring Restaurant. Afterwards, we will join the rest of our guests at a rehearsal party at a local vineyard, Newport Vineyards. I am really glad that we are going to have that extra time to see our wedding guests that are traveling so far for the wedding.

What are your plans for the rehearsal events? Will all of your out-of-towners be joining you the night before, or are you holding a more intimate rehearsal event?

Our plan is to invite the wedding party/family and then play by ear how many people will be in town the night before (from hotel bookings etc). We could afford up to 30 people I think which should be plenty of room as we will mostly likely end up with less than 60 people attending the wedding the next day.

To involve everyone who is there early we will be hosting a private tour of the Magic Hat Brewery in S. Burlington — so fun!

Cute restaurant and winery! Your guests are going to love it. I would love it.

All of our guests will be joining us for the rehearsal dinner. A family local to our destination that runs a small inn has agreed to host our party that night at their open-air restaurant.

Things could take a while so guests are meeting at the property we are renting for cocktails and appetizers then we will walk over to the restaurant together.

We’re having a pretty early rehearsal at the church (4:30) and then dinner w/wedding party and significant others right afterwards. I really wanted to keep the RD to wedding party only, since our actual wedding is very big. Plus, our guys/gals don’t really know each other at all, so it’s an extra chance to mingle.

However, we’re hosting an anyone-who-wants-to-come bonfire from 9-11 (hence the early RD), which will afford us more time with our OOT guests.

I really want to invite all the OOT to the rehearsal dinner but with the bridal party, sponsors and SO’s our rehearsal dinner is around 60 people. Therefore, I can’t :( An afterparty would be a good idea though…

We’re having a Destination Wedding with over 100 people so pretty much everyone is OOT.
We wanted to have a small intimate Rehearsal Dinner however, so we are doing what you are doing. Having the RD with immediate family minister & bridal party and then hacing a cocktail party after that with everyone.

I love Friends!

We haven’t made a decision yet, but will probably do something small and intimate (since our wedding is going to be that way too) I don’t want to celebrate and party with everyone and then do it again! We are going to give ‘em info on what to do in the area for fun (we have the Mall of America which pretty much everyone wants to go see when they come to visit). though.

Your party sounds like a great idea. My sister hosted a rehearsal pool party for pretty much everyone who wanted to come. A lot of people had to come anyway as so many people were involved in the ceremony (the bridal party and the chuppah bearers.) We definitely had more than half the wedding guests there–but we had a small wedding. Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and it was great that so many people got to meet in a casual atmosphere before the wedding and the reception. Really broke the ice. And there were watermelon boats! :D

This is somewhat a destination wedding since we are planning from our new home in Oregon for a wedding in our old home in Hawaii. We will be having a lot of out town guests so we want to make sure we include them pretty much everything.

We are planning a luau for the Wednesday before, rehearsal and rehearsal dinner for Thursday, a golf tournament for Friday. Our rehearsal dinner will be held a friends house who graciously offered to host our rehearsal dinner. We are inviting everyone and anyone who wants to join us.

We invited all relatives, wedding party and each family had invited a few close out of town friends. Then we invited all of the out of town guests to meet us at a bar near the hotels. It was great to have an extra opportunity to see everyone who had traveled so far.

Actually, that was one of the most amazing parts of the whole weekend. Walking into that bar and seeing so many friends and family from so many different parts of our lives. I will never forget it.
