Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

UPS Man Cometh

July 16th, 2007 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I’m too excited for words. My Harry Potter book was shipped on Saturday (according to Barnes and Noble’s website!) so I should get it next Saturday. Wait. CRAP. My address for all shipping is my work address and I don’t work on Saturdays. Hm. Would it be too psycho to actually GO to work on Saturday to get my book? Yeah? Yeah, I know.

Speaking of shipping… I’m also getting our invitations today! My package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 7/16/2007. I’m so excited I could scream!!!! According to my trusty coordinator, invitations should be sent six to eight weeks before the RSVP date. So… looks like these babies will be sent out July 27th or so. Whoo whoo. Can’t wait to spend a bajillion dollars on stamps. I wish we had a meter in my office. Not that I would actually mar our invitations in that way… but still, it’d be nice.

Is there really any hope of getting work done? I don’t think so. I think it’s more likely that I’ll sit here with my eyes trained on the UPS tracking information website, and my mind on my lunch prospects. Hurry up, UPS!

wow, you’re aiming to send out the invites on the same date as i am… and my wedding’s a whole month earlier and i’m sending them a month earlier (3 mos before the event)… is there a reason you’re sending it that early?

If you have a tracking number for your book, I think you can log on to UPS.com and reroute your package! I have done that in the past when I kept getting notes left on my door at home and they wouldn’t leave the package without a signature — I rerouted it to my office (via their website) and it was there the next day!

I thought invitations were supposed to go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding? I could be wrong and I’m sure your coordinator knows what she’s talking about…. but I have never received a wedding invitation 4 months before the wedding!

aoedorothee, yeah, we need to have our RSVPs in by September 29th, because we need our caterer totals in by October 7th, so we’re trying to get an extra week in to call stragglers. I was told to send the invites out 6 to 8 weeks out. My event is on November 3, and we want the RSVPs in by the end of September, which is like a month before the wedding, give or take a few days. Is two months before the RSVP date too much time?

Crap, now I’m confused. :)

I need to clear my head.

We MUST gave the RSVPs in a month or so before the wedding, because we need to give the totals to our caterer.

How long do you send the invites out before the RSVP date?

I always heard that you send out invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding, not the RSVP date, and have received most of my wedding invitations in that time frame. I am doing somewhat of a destination wedding (Cape May) and am sending my invites out 8-10 weeks before the wedding only because of the need for travel arrangements to be made earlier in light of the beach location

I didn’t reserve a copy…but then again, I didn’t reserve the last two either and I got them both at midnight. Gotta love Wal-Mart.

So, if I were to send them out six weeks before the wedding, that would be the middle of September. Is two weeks enough time to RSVP? Perhaps sent out by the start of September? Ugh. I hate numbers.

I’d so drive to work for the Harry Potter book, no question. Haha.

I love it when two aspects of my life collide (crazy obsessed Harry Potter fan and crazy obsessed bride-to-be). So glad there are other HP fans out there in the wedding world. Personally, I’d go in on a Saturday to pick up the book…but then again, I’m camping out all night long at Barnes & Noble to get mine at midnight. :)

And, yay for invitations mailing soon!

My FI did the same exact thing and thought he was so clever for getting it delivered on the first day until he realized he wouldn’t be at work. I don’t know what he plans to do about it.

Miss Kiwi-

According to Emily Post and all the other ettiquite gurus- invites are supposed to go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. However, most people send them out more like 10 weeks before the wedding because at this day age people like to make plans.

I sent mine out 7 weeks before the wedding and people kept asking me where they were because they thought they should have already had them.

I’m excited to see that I’m not the only bride to be who is dying to get her hands on the newest HP book!!

Yay invites!!! And I say send them out maybe beginning of September or end of August. July seems a bit early because I’ve heard that it’s actually good if there’s not too long between when people get their invites and have to reply by b/c then they think “oh I don’t have to do this yet” instead of “wow, that date’s coming up, I better just answer.”

And I am deliberately not ordering Harry Potter b/c the Saturday it comes out is my wedding banquet!!!! And I know if I get it before then I’m just going to ignore everyone at the banquet. So it will be my Saturday night treat instead. :-)

10 weeks back from your date is the end of August. If you’re super anxious, you could go back a week or two from that and still be fine etiquette-wise.

We sent ours out at 9 weeks, and now I’m in the middle of contacting annoying guests who think RSVPing is optional.
