About Mrs. Lollipop

Hello To The Hive!

July 17th, 2007 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Lollipop

Hi! I’m Miss Lollipop!

I’m so happy to be sharing my wedding with all of you! I’ll be marrying my college sweetheart this September at our church, and then we will have our reception at the PPG Aquarium at the Pittsburgh Zoo. There will be penguins(!) at our reception site! I am so excited!

I have been with my fiance for seven years. We met on move-in day freshman year at the George Washington University (We hail to you GW!) and we fell in love after half a year as best friends. He likes babies and animals, especially ducks, and he spent his afternoon yesterday cleaning our grimy shower curtain on his own accord. This means that to me he is the most perfect man ev-AH.

My fiance and I are both Pittsburgh transplants, but we love our city! It is much more affordable here than DC. I bought our house as a 24th birthday gift to myself on my tiny grad student salary. Plus, our local, walking-distance bars all have beer for $1.75 or less. Yay!

I inherited the DIY gene from my mother and my grandmother. Thanks to inspiration from them, our wedding will be full of artsy-craftsy goodness. Luckily, the local bridal party has been very gracious about lending a hand. I am humbled to have friends who will spend four hours at a time in the studio screen printing invitations with me.

I’m grateful to be a part of the Weddingbee team! Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the hive! I love that you will have penguins and (since they are penguins) they will be appropriately dressed in formal wear.

Congratulations! I’m excited to have another PA bride. Although some how here in the capitol we always get overlooked for Pitt and Philly.

I agree with Amy and think the penguins were very nice to go black tie for your big day!

Miss Onion,

My bridesmaids and I are planning to screenprint my invites as well. Do you have any tips?

I think wedding planning is frying my brain…

Miss Lollipop, that is too funny. I met my fiance on move-in day at GW my freshman year (he was a sophomore) six years ago. The night he proposed, he walked me through campus and we even stopped at Cone E. for dessert. At least he didn’t propose in the middle of Kogan — we walked down to the FDR in the snow.
I guess it really is true when SJT warned all the parents to be nice to each other on move-in day, because you might be yelling at future in-laws! Hail to the Buff!
P.S. I am totally jealous that you are getting married at an aquarium. I begged and pleaded but was shut out at my attempts to get married at the Baltimore Aquarium in front of the jellyfish tubes.

Katie B-
I just saw what you wrote, are you getting married in Harrisburg? That’s where I’m from, but much to my parents unhappiness, I refused to get married there. I don’t feel much attachment to central PA even though I lived there for 17 years, and since all my family would have to fly in, it wasn’t the most convenient. Although I’m sure a wedding at the Hilton or the Hersey Hotel would have been lovely…

I will likely be posting a screen printing how-to later on. If you are desperate to learn now pick up a copy of the current (Summer 2007) Martha Stewart Weddings. There are instructions for single color prints inside.

True story: When I saw the screen printing article I called one of my bridesmaids and ranted that they stole my idea. I have a problem.

omigod! We are getting married at an aquarium in California! I look forward to hearing about how your planning is going, especially about how you deal with logistical difficulties related to getting married in an aquarium, like no candles, and no sea shells for a beach themed wedding!
