Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Terra Cotta Tasty

July 17th, 2007 @ 2:04 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Our invitations have arrived. I ordered them June 29th, although technically it was about midnight. Anyway, their ship estimate was 13-16 days, and it was right on. Invitation Consultants has a wide selection of invitations, easily categorized into various types like color, shape, theme, season, you name it. The actual purchase of the invites was painless (although the wording choice was a little tough for me, Miss Indecisive), with free shipping and no tax. You have many customizable options from wording, font, and color to alignment and size of font. I really couldn’t be happier with Invitation Consultants!

So, I had my eagle eye on the UPS website, not that it would tell me, “Dude is at your building, get ready!” or something equally informative. Still, it helped to know it wasn’t stolen yet (Back in February Mr. Kiwi’s wedding band was stolen). :) So, at about 1pm I hear the familiar sound of the UPS scanner outside our door. I accidentally let an, “Eeeeeeeee!” slip and sit straight at my desk. Ironically, my boss is waiting for her delivery of Billy Blanks’ Tae-Bo, so she was also sitting there waiting for a delivery. The UPS man walks in with a large box, and my boss says, “Tae-Bo?” I tell her, “Nope, it’s my wedding invitations!” She then tells me that it’s a good substitute for her DVDs. I immediately grab my scissors to open the box and my co-workers all run over to see what they look like.

The closeup of our names at the top, and yes, you all were right… you can’t read the names. (I apologize for the blurriness).

My totally adorable RSVP card. Why are they so cute??

And the little wrap thing on the inner envelopes telling me to not be a moron.

Random things:

Tissues (as you can see, I wrecked one already)

“In case of moron, we have assembled three for you”

And this last thing is actually pretty cool, because I can’t write straight without lines.

I couldn’t be happier with the invitations! Now that it’s done, I can put them in the closet until August!

i can’t believe you can put them away! i’d be so anxious to assemble and start handwriting all the addresses and then running to the post office to get stamps…

Yay! I love that your invites are terra cotta! I was thinking about something orangeish but shied away from it because everyone was so skeptical. Your invites are proving that everyone else is silly. How gorgeous!

They look great! :)

I too used the line guide trick. But I made my own. It’s great because you just slide it into the envelope and you can still see the lines.

Hey, I just realized that I ordered my invites from the same company. My thoughts were, “Hey, those boxes look familiar… and the little warning (I so would have addressed them by accident.) and the guide lines (very helpful!)…” I would have given a positive review back when you were thinking of which to order if I had realized then.

Here are the ones I chose:

So if anyone else likes those, trust me, they’re beautiful. :)

Those are so great, and I love the moron-proof packaging! Is this company comparable pricewise to a MyGatsby or other DIY site? Also, how long did they take to come?

Miss Kiwi says:

Kelly, my invites, for 125 invitations, RSVPs, two envelopes, tissues and printed RSVP envelopes came to 184.00. They arrived in 16 days, including weekends! I love invitation consultants!

Or… you could get a jump start on addressing them.

I used Invitation Consultants. After two weeks of making changes, I had my invitations 4 days after I approved my final proofs. They look amazing!

Miss Kiwi, You made me laugh out loud! I always say thing like, “Why is this so cute?” - I ask my dog that all the time but he still hasn’t answered me. I guess he can’t, he’s too busy being ridiculously cute. Anyway, I think the whole thing is great. And what a super price!! I was thinking of DIY but at that price… very tempting! The best part for me will be when I accidentally seal the line-grid into someone’s invitation. Thanks for the referral, I’m on my way to check out their web site! :-) woo hoo!

Just an FYI for a pet peeve of mine:

The tissue paper is trash. Originally it was used to place between invites when shipping the invites to the couple since the engraving/handwritten/letterpress ink often wasn’t completely dry.

Sometimes people then reused the tissue, putting it between the invite and reception card to keep any oils from the ink to get on the back of the invite.

In any case, with improved inking techniques and many people not using letterpress invites at all, the tissue is no longer needed. (Hence your tissue coming in a little packet and not placed between each invitation.)

I know that people still include it for “tradition” but I would really like to see this go away.

Plus, it saves time not having to put more things into the invites. :)

I love your invites and what a bargain! Great work.

Miss Kiwi says:

CS, I totally hear you about the tissues. I had no idea they were even enclosed, but whatever. *btw* when I was younger, I thought the marrying couple enclosed the “tissue” so when you came to their wedding you would have something to cry into. It truly saddened me when I learned the true use for it- of course I learned it like, two years ago. :)

They look great! Congrats. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when you have them finally, after all that *work!* Of course now you’ll have all the fun of assembling and addressing them. :P My dad, who is a talented calligrapher, did my addresses. (And my placecards.) He wouldn’t take anything in return, so we took him and my mom out for a nice steak dinner as a thank you.

Amber, they look great! Isn’t it so nice to finally have them in your hands, after all the stress!

And I especially love the “moron-proofing” measures. Too funny!

Congrats! And just wait…You’ll feel even better after they are all mailed out!

You and I have the same name! Minus the last. But my fiance’s last initial is also F! And our weddings are just a few days apart…eerie. :-)

22.
Miss Kiwi says:

AMK, that IS awesome!!! I have someone to commiserate writing an “F” cursive style with!
