Beehive

July 18th, 2007 @ 4:00 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. davis2b would like to know if other brides are using both an inner and an outer envelope?  She’s only using one, and she’s not sure how to let certain single guests know that they CAN bring a guest with them.
  2. puredrivel is looking for cute, cheap lingerie show invitations (she’d DIY them, but she’s in a time crunch).
  3. Kara wants to know if anyone had problems deciding what the fathers should wear?  The groom and groomsmen are wearing tuxes, but the wedding is semi-formal so her dad wants to wear a suit.  What are you doing for your wedding?

To add your question to Beehive, please leave a comment below.  Since many questions have already been answered previously (particularly regarding etiquette and gift ideas), please use the Google search box at the top of the page to see if you can’t find an answer there first. Also, you can check past Beehives here.  Thanks!

Kara if it’s a semi-formal wedding and your dad wants to wear a suit, why not just keep him happy and let him wear a suit? If you don’t really have strong feelings one way or the other I would definitely just let him decide for himself.

davis2b-Are you making your own invites? If so, you can put “___ of ___ seats have been reserved for you and a guest” for your rsvp’s. If not, a little note would be fine to insert with the invite.

1. davis2b - I only used one envelope. When I designed my RSVP cards, for the yes portion, I put “____ of ____ will be attending” and filled in the number of guests invited in the second blank. (I got the idea from Mrs. Blueberry, I believe!)

davis2b: You can simply address the outer envelope Miss xxx xxxx and Guest.

davis2b - can’t you just address the invitation to “miss jane doe & guest”? that tells her she can bring a guest.

I addressed my outer envelopes with “& Guest,” even though I know it’s not technically correct. Plus, the RSVP card had “__ seats have been reserved” in case they didn’t notice.

What type of invite are you doing? I put a belly band on my invite and printed the same image from the invite onto a card and wrote the names of the invited guests on the card which was then placed on the band.

Kara, I kind of wanted my dad to rent a tux to match the GM, but he wanted to wear a suit (which he already has) so I said fine. Possibly matching ties? I’m not sure yet.

Question:
Can anyone recommend a great hairstylist and make-up artist in Cape Ann (Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, Manchester-By-The-Sea), MA. Thanks!

bettina, i heard of some people being walked by both their step-fathers and fathers…they meet halfway and hand off. that could be an option too?

davis2b: jess is right. just write “miss so and so and guest.” i used only outer envelopes. it works, most of the time.

does anyone know of a printer that does custom thermography? by custom, i mean “i design it, give you an image file, you print it”. i’m looking into custom letterpress, but if it’s out of my pricerange, i’d still like something textured.

Ok thanks! I tried the Ms. XXX & Guest on the outer envelope and it just looked a little funny to me. But I’ll revisit it and check into the belly bands as well. That was a cute DIY idea that I think I can handle. I designed my invites myself but I already had them printed so the “___ out of ___” isn’t an option. Thanks again.

puredrivel — how about sending each guest a cheapy garter with an attached tag describing the event?

pure drivel - Target had a cute lingerie invite. It’s the shape of a long Cami and specifically says lingerie party.

I have a question for the hive.

I (along with my jeweler) designed my custom engagement ring. In my admittedly biased opinion, its gorgeous and very unique. People comment on it all the time. The problem is, one of my friends called the other day and asked if she could show a photo of my ring to a friend of hers who wants to go custom as well. I said sure at the time, not really thinking about it. But now I am kind of upset by the idea of someone having the same (or very similar) ring. I can’t do anything about it now, of course. But am I a complete witch for very being upset by the idea?

CS - yes, let it go or you’ll sound like a control freak to your friend.

davis2b - we only did outer envelope. for those without sig. others, i put a note in letting them know they were welcome to bring a guest. So far no one has. (Good for our wallets :) )

Kara- We’re not having an overly fancy wedding, but my dad really wanted to wear a tux. he said “how often do you have the occasion to dress up and wear a tux?” - if the dads wanted to wear suits I woulda been fine with that too though.

I just want to make it clear that I’m not going to say anything to my friend - it would be pointless as she already showed the guy the pictures. I’m just wondering if this is something to be reasonably (silently) upset by, or if I’m just being silly in wanting to keep my design to myself.
