About Mrs. Lovebug

I’m not sure how I stumbled across this, but I had to share with the rest of the class…Allergic to platinum? Concerned about the environment? Plain old broke? Well, now you can have your nuptial symbolism without all those pesky diamonds and precious metals. Presenting Stempelschmuck! The all-natural, stamp alternative to an actual ring. Don’t ask me how I found it, because I don’t speak German or typically surf German websites. All I know is now I can’t stop saying “Stempelschmuck.”

True story: when I pulled these two images off the web, the hands file was called “schmuck.jpg.” I’m not saying there’s any correlation between that and the sort of person who’d actually buy the product, I’m just saying that’s what they named the image, is all.

It’s a good thing I’m not allergic to diamonds.

Schmuck? Coincidence or not….?

weird! a couple i know has their spouse’s initials tattooed on their ring finger…they wear their wedding rings too, but in case they have to go somewhere it’s not safe to wear their rings, they have their sig other’s name on them at all times :) it’s pretty cute

Okay, I’ll spoil the fun: schmuck is German for jewelry.

Getting a tattoo on your finger sounds like it would hurt! Ouch. But then, love hurts. And it will hurt even more when they get divorced and have to have their ex’s name lasered off again. :P

(Didn’t Pamela Anderson and one of her exes have to do that?)

Translated it means “stamp jewelry” but yes it is lots of fun saying it. I want to buy it for my german professor now!

Melanie says:

I knew a professional athlete who had his a wedding ring tattooed onto his finger, because a ring would have been in the way. Now THAT’s love!

And Schmuck is Yiddish for…

8.
Joyful says:

It does sound a lot like (well, looks like) the German word for dirt, schmutz.

Pencils says:

That’s a good point about the pro athlete. My husband can’t wear his wedding ring when he’s lifting at the gym, and he said that the other day he couldn’t tell if a guy chatting to him about weights was just being friendly or if he was trying to pick him up. If he had a tattooed ring, it would let these guys (and women) know that my man is taken! And so dedicated he had his ring tattooed on. :D (Not that I think it would stop most of them, sadly.)

although i’m not big on tattooes, this is a neat idea! my fiancee and i were discussing wedding band alternatives because neither of us wear jewelry (and we also meet 2 of your above criteria: concerned for environm and plain old broke!)
