About Beehive

Beehive

July 19th, 2007 @ 4:00 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. bettina is close with both her father and her stepfather, so she’d like to sidestep the awkwardness of choosing who’ll escort her down the aisle by having her younger brother do it.  He’s seven years old, though, and she was going to have him as the ring bearer as well; should she forego the ring bearer?  Can she have him perform both duties?  Will it be strange?
  2. amy is looking for a makeup artist and hair stylist in Cape Ann, MA.
  3. joy would like recommendations for a company that does custom thermography (as in, she designs an image file, and they print it).
  4. CS designed a custom engagement ring with her jeweler and she loves it!  A friend called and asked if she could show a photo of the ring to another friend who wants to go custom.  CS said sure, but is now kind of upset at the idea of someone having the same or similar ring.  She’s not going to do anything, but is she a complete witch for being a little upset at the idea?
  5. AmandaB wants to know what songs you’re playing as the bridal party and newlyweds enter the reception.

Bettina,

I’ve seen where a bride will walk by herself and then the family gathers around to give her away all together. Would that work?

I like to know if it is possible to get a Day Of Coordinato for $500 - $700 in NYC or is that to little in NYC rate?
Also, can anyone recommend me one that they know or have used before

Joy: I used http://www.nwprintedsolutions.com for my two-color thermography, printed on my own paper. They were very helpful, and made sure I knew about a few typos before they printed anything! Whew!

CS: I know how you feel, I have a custom ring too and I’d be annoyed if anyone copied it for their ring. Though chances are, if the other friend hasn’t seen your ring yet, she probably won’t duplicate it exactly. Perhaps you could make a point of telling your first friend that you’d really appreciate it if her friend changed the design a little so yours stayed unique.

bettina, why don’t you have your dad and stepfather walk you down the aisle? one on each side. My friend did that, and it was awesome. I think that would work.

Bettina, you could always walk down the aisle alone or with your FI. We had a part where the officicant asked “Who gives the blessings of these families for the couple?” (or something like that), and all of the family members answered “We do”. So that could maybe solve any problems of who to “give” you away… they all get to!

CS, I think you’ll be surprised. We designed mine and everytime someone says “oh, mine is just like it”, I want to say “no it’s not”. To me, every detail of the ring is so important that other rings never look similar (to me).

AmandaB: we’re all being introduced to a remix of “Gonna Fly Now,” the “Rocky” themesong. This is FH’s favorite movie…

CS -i know exactly what you mean. Mine was also custom made and when people ask, we just give them our friend’s number.

AmandaB - we all walked in to a Jane’s Addiction song - the theme song for Entourage. My husband originally wanted Gob’s magic show song (Arrested Development) but i had to veto because no one would get it.

bettina - if it’s special to you to include both fathers, I’m sure there’s a way to incorporate them both. Some good ideas are posted above. Or could have one do the first half of the aisle, and the other the rest of the aisle. I’ve seen this done very nicely and it’s nice symbolism.

Amy: If you haven’t seen this already, it’s a great resource for planning a wedding in the Boston area. You can use the advanced search at the bottom of the page to find all sorts of info on hair and makeup, though I do have to admit that Cape Ann is not covered as well as some other areas. Good luck!

AmandaB–we used some classical fanfares that tied in with the ceremony music…but after the intros, it was swing all night.

CS — Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!Cat’s out of the bag now, so you might as well continue to be gracious about it. You won’t be seeing your friend’s friend (maybe ever) anyway. If there are 2 identical rings in the universe, eh. It’s also possible she was asking just to be polite and you’ll never know what (if anything) they do about designing the other ring. Would just let it go in the spirit of maintaining your friendship.

AmandaB: We are walking in to Beyonce and JayZ Bonnie and Clyde (we are gangsta like that) But I would have done crazy in love with them too.

Does anyone know of a blog with groom/groomsmen attire for inspiration? I am planning an intimate Fall casual garden wedding. The Groom is going to wear a suit and we’re wanting the groomsmen to be semi casual & comfortable. The bridesmaids are wearing a strapless Anthropologie dress. Thanks.

I am looking to rent navy blue tuxedoes, but can’t find them ANYWHERE. Does anyone know if these exist? My fiance and his friends in the Air Force will be wearing their uniforms, which is navy blue, and I need something for the other groomsman and usher to wear. Thanks!

Does anyone know of a bridal boutique in southern california that carries Oscar de la Renta gowns? I’ve fallen in love with one that I saw in a magazine but I’m not sure who here carries that line since I’m new to the area. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)

bettina–given those choices, I’d have to say go it alone. I think if I saw a bride being escorted by someone that much younger than her, even if I knew the whole story, my gut reaction would probably be “Holy crap! Her father was caught in a time warp!”

I’m having problems with my 2 maid of honors. We were roommates in college (this past year) and have since then grown apart. They are having no part of my bachelorette party and didn’t show up to my 2 bridal showers! I thought that we were close friends and that I could count on them. On the other hand…2 other bridesmaids are doing a wonderful job. I get married in 2 months. Is it too late to make the 2 maid of honors just bridesmaids and vice versa.

I’m getting married in 4 weeks and have decided I dislike my dress. Obviously, with the wedding so close, I’m on a very tight budget. Any ideas?

I will be a very small budget bride, and am thinking about having my dress made. Is it cheaper in the long run to have it made or just bite the bullet and buy the dress I want? Also, what kind of questions should I ask the dressmakers I talk to?
