About Mrs. Pumpkin

Lighten Up*

July 19th, 2007 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Pumpkin

Yesterday I got my post-wedding haircut and Thank God because knights of columbus has it been hot here! I was dying under all of that hair. I made an appointment with Grant Bray, the wonderful stylist who did our hair for the wedding and started looking for inspiration. I found this pic on TMZ.com and took it in to Grant hoping for something close to Katie’s new haircut.

Here is what my hair looked like yesterday morning:

And this is how I have been wearing it for the last 3.5 years:

While I was going to school I was either too tired before an 8:30 am class or I was reading all day, and so I just always had it up in a pony-tail. Now that I am starting work in a law firm I figured it was time to start being an adult and get a “grown-up” haircut. Here are the results! (Sorry for the awkward self-portraits!)

It is very different from anything that I have had before but I love it! My head feels about 10 lbs lighter and my hair looks so healthy. Best of all… Grant spent 2 hours on my hair and only charged me $35!!! I am telling you Sasky brides out there - snap him up now because he will not stay a secret for long!

Have you been growing your hair out specifically for the wedding? Are you planning on changing your hair after the wedding?

Looks amazing Mrs. Pumpkin! It really compliments your face- your eyes really stand out now! I just got my first “grown up people” cut too!

Aliya says:

Miss Pumpkin, GREAT haircut! Love it.

I feel as though most brides have long hair…but I’ve kept mine short (similar to your new ‘do, actually) for the wedding. I get so annoyed when people were asking, “Are you going to grow out your hair?” Now, with the wedding just over two weeks away, they’ve finally quit :)

christina says:

LOVE the new look!! Not sure what I’m doing after the wedding. I’ve grown my hair pretty long (though it stays up most of the time) and got so many compliments at my shower… Before that I told my FI that I was going for a chop after the wedding.. now I’m not sure. But yours- YOURS looks amazing and may give me confidence to chop ;)
It’s only hair right?

Impatience says:

FABULOUS!!! You look GORGEOUS! An absolutely perfect style for you. :)

Helen says:

I started growing mine last summer for my brother’s wedding having worked my way through every variation of the chin length bob for the previous 8 years. It’s now hitting my shoulder blades and everyone comments on how long it is but i’m not particularly enamoured of it…

And just to be annoying, the FI thinks it looks best back in a quick mini french pleat that I do most days. Ie Up. My ears are not even funny.

What’s a girl to do?? I might join you in the land of the chop, but maybe even pre-wedding!x

Miss Onion says:

Ooohh I love it. Better than Katie’s due if you ask me. Hers is very matronly and yours is “hip young professional.” I am grown my hair out for the wedding (have been for a year) and it’s SOOO long. I just got a trim yesterday to make it a bit healthier, but didn’t loose the length.

Post wedding I think I will cut it — maybe back to just below my shoulders, but my hair is very fine so a cut as short as yours makes me nervous. Anyway, kudos to your “new married hair cut!”

Andrea says:

I LOVE IT!!! Great job!

and NICE Anchorman quote :-)

loveletter says:

I love your haircut!

I have always had short hair, and I decided to grow it long for my wedding, because I always pictured myself with an elegant updo. So I spent a year growing it out and after the wedding, I chopped it short again. Looking back at my photos, I wish I would have kept my hair short for the wedding - it is more “me”

Miss Corn says:

Faaaaabulous! And I plan on chopping my hair immediately following the honeymoon!

11.
Sumbride says:

Oh definitely. I’ve grown it out a bit and I can’t wait to shorten it, but I’m also tempted to go from blonde to brunette. Everybody tells me not to do it immediately after the wedding because it will freak out the new hubby.

Jessi says:

beautiful! i plan on hacking mine off to a cute bob like yours after the wedding! and my FI wants to shave his, so I told him he has the green light then too :)

Abbey says:

I love it! Love it! Love it! It works soo well with the shape of your face. Work it girl!

C.C says:

I am in unison with everyone else. The haircut looks great! Shorter bobs are definitely in this year. I’ve always been too wussy to cut my hair above shoulder though. Maybe I’ll do it, eventually… but really, it looks SO GOOD! Does Mr. Pumpkin like it?

Liezl says:

Your new haircut looks GREAT! I am also growing my hair out for our wedding, but have a hair appointment booked for the first day back from honeymoon! LOL I HATE having long hair!

Julie says:

I think I am the opposite of basically all brides — I am 9 months away from the wedding, and a few weeks ago I cut off 11.5″ to donate to Locks of Love!
I had been planning on donating since before my fiance proposed, and I knew if I didn’t just do it now, I would have to at least cut off a few inches because it was SO long, and that would defeat my goal of growing it out. So, I just went ahead and cut it all off the day before the engagement party and completely surprised everyone! I figure I will get another 5″ or so out of it before the wedding, and it’s at my shoulders now…

Your hair look fantastic! My hair has been long for the past year or so and I think I’ll keep it that way for the wedding. But I’ve got be better about getting regular trims.

Grace says:

Your hair looks great, Mrs. Pumpkin! I love it!!

23.
Lou says:

You look adorable!

I’m chopping mine off after the wedding, too.

In fact, since we have a full day before we take off for our honeymoon, I’m even considering doing it in time to strut my bob around the streets of Paris!

24.
Didi says:

o i like your new haircut! very cute!

25.
Jenn says:

You look great! I cannot wait for my post-wedding haircut…six months to go!

26.
Amy says:

Wow! it looks great. Very bouncy and healthy looking and complementary to your face shape. I love it.

JennyGoLightly says:

Looks fantastic! I love it!

I have extremely short hair–Natalie Portman/Mia Farrow pixie cut-eqsue. I thought a lot about growing it out, because of all the cute little barrettes and things you can get, but realized, I wouldn’t know who I was in my wedding photos with long hair! I knew I would cut it right after the wedding. So I kept the same hair, which paid off cause I didn’t need to get a stylist. As for the cute barrettes and things, I found a little ostrich feather clip with swarovski crystals that I loved online, but it was $100! I went to Michaels, got 1 big fancy ostrich feather, a packet of swarovski crystals and spent a lazy saturday cutting the pretty plume into pieces. About 45 minutes and $3.00 later, I had an exact replica! :-) And it looked quite smashing and retro with my short hair!

Julya says:

Looks awesome!!

I’m growing mine out and I can’t wait to chop it all off!

gabzoots says:

i love that style! you look fantastic! if i didn’t have crazy, naturally curly hair, i would definitely get a bob haircut like yours.

i’ve been growing my hair out, and it’s driving me insane!! like you, i pull my hair back nearly everyday, and i’m so tired of it. i wish i had a day after the wedding to get a haircut before the honeymoon, because i am SO ready for a new look! :)

Mrs. Bee says:

your hair looks fantastic! i’d been planning on chopping my hair off too. i hope it turns out as nicely as yours did!

lindsay says:

love it!! it’s adorable.

i want to make an appointment for a couple hours after our wedding. i love short hair. but the fiance doesn’t. so i’ve grown it out for the wedding but i seriously want it short for our honeymoon.

Suz says:

I love your haircut, it looks wonderful…just makes you look fresh! :)

34.
R says:

Love it!!!!! Absolutely love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got to give you credit. You have guts right before the wedding to do something drastic.

35.
L says:

I’m going to add to the already unanimous decision. Your hair looks great! I think it’s pretty hard to pull off an awesomely looking bob like yours, it suits you really well! It looks even better than Katie’s hair! =)

I wish I could go to your hairstylist!

36.
MissStar says:

that is a PERFECT cut for you! Looks great!

37.
tofu says:

perfect for a young lawyer! professional, polished and ready to take over the world. this hair looks great on you. :)

38.
Tea says:

to be honest, i was a little skeptical when i saw the pic of katie because i’m not too fond of it on her but it’s a great cut on you! even better than katie.

i got my first grown up cut [layers AND highlights] about 2 years ago and i haven’t looked back since. granted i now get the same cut everytime but i loves it.

AmandaB says:

I’m growing my hair out for the wedding — but I was trying to grow it out before we got engaged, because I had it chopped last summer.
But I do want to make sure there is plenty for the hair dresser to work with. It’s just below my shoulders now, will probably cut to shoulder length sometime after the wedding.

Laura S says:

Mrs. Pumpkin, it looks fantastic! And perfect for your new job. Big changes for you all at once eh? New husband, new job, new hair, new house.

I know I look best with long hair and have worn it that way for a decade, so I’m keeping mine long for the wedding. But I’ve had it quite blonde for years and just recently went dark and LOVE it, the darker brunette will really make the white of my dress pop so I’m going to leave it dark for the wedding. The other big change I’m going for is that I’ve had bangs for the last 4 years, but I want an updo for the wedding and don’t know whether bangs will go with it or not, so I’m growing out my bangs to give myself options. I will do some hair trials and decide whether to chop off the bangs before or after the wedding, but one way or another I will want them back!

Mrs. Pumpkin says:

Wow! Thanks for all of the love y’all!

C.C. - Mr. Pumpkin is already working in Calgary and I am still in Regina so he hasn’t seen it yet! I am sure that he will like it though, he’s pretty easy to please!

I wonder if one of you with short hair (Aliya, Jenny Go Lightly or others) could write wonderful guest posts about options for short hair in weddings! I would love to see your DIY ostrich hair clip Jenny and I am sure that others would as well. Just a thought…

Jenny says:

We must be sisters from a different mister, because although my hair is a bit longer than yours was, I wear it the same every day! Bleh to ponytails, I sometimes think. I do my hair, what, 3 times a year maybe?

So now you’ve got me thinking, because you look fabulous! We also have the same face shape, so that is encouraging to me, that I could look as good as you if I only took the plunge!

43.
damis says:

You look very, very nice! i think Victoria Beckham has totally reinvented the classic bob-seeing as we have her to thank for katie holmes’ new look

44.
ELAINE says:

wow i love your hair! it looks very nice on you. The color and cut works for you. And only for $35? thats a bargain!!

45.
Meem says:

I thought my bangs looked juevenile, so I grew them out for the last SEVEN months for the wedding. Yesterday, with only three weeks to go ’til the wedding, I had my stylist hack them off! I decided my face needed “some angles.”

46.
twelvetigers says:

Ohh, it works grat with your face shape. Honestly, it’s perfect!

47.
vaj says:

LOVE IT!!

48.
Mia says:

I LOVE IT! So cute!
I’m a ponytail girl too, but I’m trying to get out of that habit. I just don’t like having my hair by my face >.

49.
Margo says:

I’m growing my hair out for the wedding - I’m going to do a half-up romantic curly style for the wedding, so I want all the length I can get. After the wedding, I plan to have it cut and donate it. (I believe you have to have it cut at least 12 inches to donate, so that’s probably what I’ll do). I hope it’s long enough that it won’t be *too* short after that!
