Celebrity Wedding Crasher?

July 20th, 2007 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Emerald

Yesterday we found out that Tiger Woods will be staying at our venue the weekend of our wedding! Whoa! Apparently there is a big golf tournament in the area that weekend (obviously). How cool would it be to have him as a wedding crasher?! Well, Mr. E said that he wouldn’t want the attention taken away from us, which I agree is absolutely right… but I definitely wouldn’t mind if Tiger showed up at 11pm and had a few drinks with us, haha. The hotel is fairly small, only 200 +/- rooms, so he can’t be all that hard to find… Maybe I’ll stalk him and slip an invitation under his door, hehehe. Totally Kidding!! But Tiger, if you are reading this, feel free to make an appearance! winky012

The only bad thing is that we can’t get upgraded to a suite since Mr. Woods and his entourage have monopolized them all whateva011 Bummer…

I remember that last year, there was some hoopla when Oprah “crashed” some people’s weddings. The Tulsa couple was less than thrilled. How would you react to a celebrity wedding crasher, or has it happened to you (or someone you know?)

I wish it would happen to me! We sent an invitation to Will Ferrell. It would make our day if he actually showed up!

As much as I love Oprah, I wouldn’t want her to be center of attention at my wedding. Not that I’m ego-centric… but I’d rather guests remember our wedding for the lovely ceremony, the good food and the awesome music and not as “the Oprah wedding.”

My brother and sister-in-law had Miss Manners at their wedding! Although not much of a recognizable celebrity- certainly a celebrity who put people on edge at least during dinner. Although, she was invited and in true Miss Manners style, she did not crash.

I ‘d take a celebrity wedding crasher! That’s great that Andrea invited Will Ferrell… I love Will Ferrell.

Tiger Woods stayed at my friend’s house when the PGA was in our town! Apparently they asked people with nice houses near the golf course to volunteer their house to a celebrity golfer and gang (they had to apply to offer their house) - they found out AFTER that it was Tiger Woods that stayed there! (He left a note!)

Ugh. My brother and SIL are big Mets fans, and at their recent wedding in NYC, her father hired Mr. Met (the mascot) to “crash” the wedding.

They liked it initially, but I can tell you that after about 5 minutes they, and even MORE SO, their guests were tired of it because he was monopolizing the attention.

Seeing someone like Oprah wave to you at your wedding and then persuading them to come over for a moment sounds great. Having them burst as if you would want them there is not okay.

p.s. I do however, want to invite Will Ferrel to my wedding! For him, it’d be ok.

I’d be mad and ask them to leave. I am a pretty laid-back bride about most things, but I am sorry, if you are not on the guest list then you are not invited. I really want to celebrate my wedding with my friends, not have them all enamoured with some random celebrity and forget all about the wedding.

I’m trying to figure out a way to get Jack Johnson to “crash” our wedding. He is my fiance’s absolute favorite musician, and one of his songs is the one we will have our first dance to. It would be amazing if we started playing the recording of the song and then Jack Johnson walked in actually playing the song! My fiance would be thrilled, so I need to figure out a way…

I’d be thrilled if it was a cool celebrity. It would be sweet if Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosaylnn, crashed our shindig.

When my best friend was married three years ago one of my MOH duties was getting an invitation to Gwen Stefani’s people in the hopes she’d attend the reception. it was an L. A. wedding so the bride was hopeful.

Good luck that Tiger shows up to mooch the free liquor!

it would probably depend. knowing my long infatuation with tiger woods [since junior high...yikes] my friends and family would get a kick out of it if he dropped in for a moment. but as far as crashers, it would have to be a moment and i’d feel better if i had seen them and asked them to stop in…that way it wouldn’t be a complete surprise and a nice and simple way to mingle and them to leave quietly.

i definitely would not want a big production [like oprah...nothing she does is ever small] made out of it…then it turns the attention away from us to them and i can’t have that. as ego-centric as it sounds. lol

my cousin’s ex-MIL used to cook for chevy chase and so she knew some stars. they had one soap opera woman (no idea who, i don’t watch them) and my aunts were gaga over her. they even went to take pics with her. i love my aunts but it seemed really really weird and not very classy.

A coworker of mine hired the mascot from the Philly Eagles to come to thier reception for a short time (half an hour) - her husband loved it!

You can probably address an invitation to Tiger c/o the hotel, give it to the front desk staff when you arrive, and hope for the best.

I would kick out anyone who came uninvited to my wedding.

Just a quick note because I read through the comments on the linked glitteraria post -

The supposed sister of the groom and the maid of honor and a person who works at E magizine all commented that the couple weren’t actually mad at all…the quote was twisted.

I think having Oprah come into my wedding at a slow part, stay for 15 minutes and bring a gift (which you have to assume was expensive - plus you might be paid as well, depending on union rules)…Not such a bad thing. I agree with the person that said it would be a fun memory of your wedding for years!

(now if she came in during the first dance or the cake-cutting, that would just be rude!)

Don’t forget to invite Tiger’s wife Elin and daughter Sam!

Yeah, deep into the reception, who would care? We had lame-ass dirty crashers and looking back Oprah or Tiger would have been a definite treat. :-)

Hey, if you guys are golf fans and not just wanting to rub elbows with famous people, then why not slip an invite to the front desk for Mr. Woods and family? I think you really want to from your post. :-) But Mr. E is *probaby* right. And we all know there’s no polite way to say “come late and say hi.” ;-)
