My Barn Wedding

July 20th, 2007 @ 5:17 pm by Mrs. Licorice

When I began the planning process, my first choice was a traditional Charleston wedding. I had become enchanted with the city and all of its endless wedding possibilities.

As a full-time student, I snapped out of this delusion fairly quickly. Did I really want to plan a long distance wedding, and leave much of the actual scouting and decision making to a planner? My control-freak heart just fluttered.

I decided to stay a little closer to home. I live in the Atlanta suburbs after all, and there are so many options! Mr. Licorice and I started by looking at loft spaces:

The bare lines seemed so cool and modern. However, this steered too far away from my original vision of a Southern wedding.

Then there were all the historical mansions. Most run the gamut of Victorian Revival styles: Queen Ann, Neoclassical Revival, Federal Revival, Greek Revival, etc. The interiors of some made me run for the hills. They were too traditional for our tastes. (This is where I start to feel like Goldilocks.)

Then there was the little-known garden that a fellow Atlanta knottie had discovered. The grounds were absolutely breathtaking, but too far away. I could not count on my out of town invitees to make it in one piece. I got lost myself.

And finally, while visiting a local garden, Mr. Licorice was almost attacked by a flock of geese.

During my search online, I came across this website several times. It seemed cute. Why not visit it in real life?

Here is what I found:

The John Oliver Michael House is a historic farm house with a barn replica located in the back of the grounds. The area is filled with flowering plants and large oak trees. It can be described as lovely, charming, and unique, the venue trifecta. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!

The location is just beautiful. When is the wedding? We are also planning a wedding in Athens in October 2007. Still need some local resources. Are you willing to share? TIA.
