Quick, Throw Me Some Beads!

July 20th, 2007 @ 2:00 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

Has anyone had any experience with these bras? I don’t need a whole lot of lift but I do need the bra to stay on through the day. I don’t want to confuse my wedding day with mardi gras! This one looks low cut enough for my wedding gown. Other strapless bras are cut too high like a tube top. Any other suggestions?

Le Mystere-I heard their bras and body suits are just “okay”.

I was thinking of pairing the bra with one of these hot numbers! It’s not seamless though. My rib cage fat will stick out.

Forget the wedding day. What am I gonna wear the wedding “night”?

I bought a strapless bustier from stockingirl.com, which I love! It smooths out my stomach and I don’t have to tug it up at all. I wear it with all my dresses now.

You HAVE to get the NuBra (available at a number of places online for about $30.) It’s the BEST purchase I’ve ever made, and I’m not exagerating. I’ve bought it for my mom, my best friends, even my future mother in law. It works miracles, stays put no matter what, and is completely re-usable time and time again.

Ditto Emily, the NuBra works great for me, and I have a medium-large chest.
Please tell me where you found that Oscar de la Renta babydoll gown, it’s lovely!

I usually wear a Nubra with my evening gowns, and like the other Bees have commented, it works GREAT. Definitely stays on as long as you want it to stay on. Gives you a little lift and “oomph.”

However, it didn’t work so well with my wedding dress. Good thing I found that out during the fitting! Since I wore a strapless dress, the top ends of the bra kept peeking out everytime I moved, even though I positioned the bra as low as I could. Finally I gave up and ended up wearing a bustier, and am grateful I did. My clever alterations person put velcro on the bustier and in the inside of the dress so it would never peek through.

Hope that helps!

I also agree… the NuBra is awesome! Some are $30, but the ones that have the extra padding are $60. Still a great purchase! They stay on, even when you’re dancing!

Velcro’d bustier and wedding dress, now that’s a clever seamstress. I’ve heard that if you are a C or above to certainly wear a bra/bustier. Unforunately that leaves NuBras out of the equation for me - can’t see how they’d ever provide enough lift for more than a med-B.
At any rate, ask your seamstress to sew pads/liners in your dress - is that an option?

i’m also a fan of the nubra. i’m really small, so i needed padding sewn onto my dress, plus the nubra, and it’s still not enough!

The NuBra works great on me and I am a C.

If you want something to slim your waist I would suggest Spanx “higher power” they are great.

what about sewn in boob support?

Also a NuBra supporter (though mine is the “Featherlite”)! It does tend to peek over the top of my dress if I don’t set it low enough, though. And when I took photos in a strapless dress as my FI dipped me, they totally showed! Then again, if I hadn’t been wearing them, I shudder to think that I could’ve flashed half of Boston!

Still, NuBra is fantastic.

I’ve used one of those stick-on bras like in the first pic for years. They’re fine as long as the dress pushes back somewhat on your chest. There’s no sticky stuff between your cleavage, so the bra doesn’t stay up very well by itself. Also, you have to use the (expensive) double sided tape that comes with the bra. Regular double tape doesn’t hold.

I’ll have to check out the NuBra!

I bought the Victoria’s Secret’s seamless bustier. It’s low enough for my strapless dress, slims my waist, and holds in my stomach.

Do Spanx *really* work as well as everyone says? I’ve only got a bit of flub but I get that horrible horrible ‘bulge’ over pantyhose that I hate. I don’t quite understand how these don’t leave a bulge, even without the elastic waistbands. And if they don’t have those, how do they stay up?

Colleen says:

Beware of sticky cups! I had a backless dress for my sister’s wedding. It was a hot & humid day. One stuck, the other didn’t, so I’m very- shall we say- lopsided in the pictures!

Miss Snow Pea says:

The above pictures/products are all from Nordstrom’s.

Thanks for all the tips everyone!

Cy-I don’t know. I’ll see. I’ll do an experiment and blog about it. How about that? I get the “bulge” too.

higher power spanx definitely work, and work really well. however, if you plan on wearing stockings as well, i recommend putting the spanx on over your pantyhose, then walk around for an hour or so and make sure that nothing slips around.

the nubra (regular and feather light) definitely works well. i’ve worn them in the heat and humidity with no slippage problems. Again, wear it around for a couple of hours to make sure you’re comfortable in it. One day, after 6 hours in a halter dress in the Virginia heat, i was REALLY ready to get rid of mine.

Miss Snow Pea says:

Good to know. I am going to have a spare regular strapless on hand just in case.

I wore the NuBra for my wedding in Hawaii and it was just perfect! It provided just the right amount of cleavage too! :)
