Pimpin’ All Over The World*

July 22nd, 2007 @ 4:39 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

My new favourite website is Pimp That Snack! It is just the kind of random silliness that I love and have been filling my days with until I start work. While snooping around the site I came across this entry which has very easy instructions on how to create a Rubiks Cube cake.

Pimpin' All Over The World* : wedding cake canada diy Pts Cub

How cute would that be for a groom’s cake?

There are many other projects on the site as well. Who knew that this many people would put so much effort into creating giant sized versions of their favourite snacks?!?

Baking the Groom’s cake was one of several DIY projects that I had planned but did not get around to for our wedding. I had never told Mr. Pumpkin that I was thinking of doing that though so there was no disappointment when it didn’t end up happening. Are you planning on baking the Groom’s cake for your wedding?

I heart you, MRS Pumpkin!I’m still trying to muster up the courage to cut my hair… ;-)

That is a fun idea and really would be an easy DIY.

When do you usually serve a groom’s cake? I’ve never been to a wedding with a second cake. Is it at the rehearsal dinner?

The whole groom’s cake thing mystifies and confuses me. Why does it have to look like a kid’s cake? I’m going to get one, but they all seem so “themey” and silly…

Cute! We didn’t have a groom’s cake at our wedding since we deemed it unnecessary but that one is pretty awesome. I can’t imagine baking a cake a day or two before the wedding though…..I was busy enough as it was!

BD - Groom’s cakes can be at the rehearsal or at the reception, it’s entirely up to you. There have been a couple of posts on this site in the past that will better explain the tradition but it basically started as a way to serve a different option for dessert. Since wedding cakes were always a light, white cake the groom’s cake was traditionally a heavier, chocolate cake. I have no idea when the trend towards theme groom’s cakes started but I think it is a cute way to inject some of the groom’s personality into the wedding. The Knot has quite a large collection of photos of groom’s cakes so you can go there for inspiration or to see more of what this whole thing is about.

Miss Lovebug - I have seen many classy groom’s cakes that aren’t themey at all! There are a couple on there that are 3 layer chocolate cakes with raspberries or strawberries along the sides. More like what Mrs. Blueberry made for her wedding. You could also check out The Knot’s photo galleries to see some different options if you are interested…
