About Mrs. Jelly Beans

If I could go back in time I think I would have been steered in a different direction with our favors and their respective packaging. There are so many cute and creative options out there. And they are becoming more and more affordable too.

Why am I only seeing them now? *kicks self in behind* I think I need to start planning for renewing our vows soon. :P

If I can’t have them then I hope one of you brides-to-be can. I shall live vicariously through you!

It’s picture time. :)

Oohhhh, where is the first pic (flower bags) from? I checked out the sites you linked to but I didn’t have any luck finding it. TIA!

By the way, I love your favors and your guests will too!

I agree. Your favors are fabulous! They are so original and I love the box you found for them! I honestly like them more than any of the other favors that you have posted up there. I’m sure your guests will love them too.

I think that wedding favors are the bane of my existence. I don’t know what it is, but they make me feel really sad.

Which is weird, because there’s just as much frippery involved with invitations (hello, tissue paper liners), but those don’t get me riled up quite the way that favors do.

Does anyone else out there sort of want to claw their eyes out at the thought of 100 little mittens holding chapstick?

Abi, in answer to your question. YES! I totally and completely agree. They are pretty wasteful and almost always go underappreciated by guests as well. Almost every wedding I go to, favors remain on the table, unclaimed. I do not need another silver-plated mini photo album, bottle of wedding bubbles, wine stopper or picture frame. I do however, love the idea of guests donating to one of your favorite causes or offering seeds or plant seedlings as favor.

As for my own favors, my future MIL offered early on to make Dutch cookies from a family recipe and I’m trying to find packaging that won’t show grease stains (the cookie is buttery!). I got swallowed up by the Martha Stewart DIY machine until I had to check myself.

Now I’m thinking simple: wax paper bag with a simple logo sticker perhaps? I also plan on putting a little “recycle me” sticker on the bottom of whatever I use, especially if it’s made from paper. I’m a recycling nerd!

Less waste is my unofficial motto for my wedding but it can be hard to stay the course!

G, how bout more of a little box, so that the butteriness doesn’t show through?

Miss Jelly Beans, I love wine, so I would have loved to receive one of your wine stoppers as a favor! It’s very unique and useful!

Making favor bags is easy and cheap. If you can drive a car or play a driving video game, you can use a sewing machine.

Pick fabric that’s easy to work with (not too slippery/delicate/silky so it’s not prone to fraying/pulling). Use pinking shears (zig-zag) to cut fabric into a bunch of rectangles, fold in half (right sides together) and press. Sew along the bottom and the open side (that is, sew an “L” shape, with the other side of the “U” being the folded side), leaving the top open. If you want a built-in tie for the bag, tuck a piece of fray-resistant ribbon (or can seal the cut ends w/ a drop of clear nailpolish to stop fraying), folded roughly in half, in the seam about 1/3 of the way down from the top opening so it catches in the seam, with the ribbon tails on the INSIDE of the bag. Then flip inside out. Press again if desired. VOILA. Now stuff (candies, potpouri, whatever you like) and tie closed. Add a tag onto the ribbon tie if you want.

Plumeriapal- the felt bags are from http://www.favorideas.com. But I suggest a google search to find the best prices….

Thanks ladies for all the reassuring words…. :)

I agree that you have a 50/50 chance that the favors will be used or left behind. But in the defense of the poor defenseless favors…. who are just fulfilling their life’s destiny… hahahaha…. its the thought that counts… whether they appreciate it or not… And I know all my Filipino aunts will be like “favors, what? they didnt have favors?” lol!

Jessi- wedding hell… too funny! I surely hope there isnt a wedding hell… if there is…. i’ll save you a parking spot… jk… :)
