Hair Trial

July 24th, 2007 @ 5:23 pm by Mrs. Butterscotch

This past Saturday I had my hair trial.  I needed to have someone that is ok with working on African American hair. Some people think because they can work with curly hair they can also do my type of hair, but that just isn’t always the case.

I used to work at the salon I went to while I was in college, and I’ve known that I wanted Tim to do my wedding hair for the past 5-6 years. While I was working there, this girl came into the salon one time for a prom updo. Her hair was thicker and longer than mine - she looked like a lion! She sat down in Tim’s chair and about 45 minutes later she looked amazing! At that moment I told Tim “one day you are doing my hair for my wedding.” Fast forward many years later to this past Saturday afternoon. I had my hair accessory and pictures in hand. The moment I sat down in Tim’s chair and showed him what I wanted to do, he was sure we could achieve the look.

Yep the famous Jessica Alba Oscar moment. I just loved this hair! It was classic and I figured it would work with my long face. Here is what I got. *WARNING- I had been packing all day so I look a little oogie in the face but focus on the hair.

I will be playing with veil placement more but here is the front so you can get an idea.

I love it! Tim did a wonderful job and this was just the trial.

Now a quick second review in case anyone likes my hair comb. I got it at this great store out in Tukwila called All About Weddings. They are wonderful! The staff is beyond helpful and knowledgeable about their products and all things wedding related. Their web site doesn’t really offer much, but that just means you should go stop in the store. :)

You look lovely! Yay for Tim!

You look gorgeous (and not just because of the hair)!

Looks really quite lovely as-is, however I noticed that in the trial photo the comb is visible behind the ornament. These are usually wired on, so if it helps you could undo the wire, flip it around, and re-wire it so it is more hidden in your hair. My bridal accessory shop gave me this tip.

Your hair looks great, so does the hairpiece. The profile shot really shows the waves nicely!

Don’t know about other readers, but I’m having a hard time deciding on hairstyle, hairpiece and veil placement…

Shannon: Thanks for the tip, the comb will be hibben very well on the day of. I actually had taken it out a few times and put it back in to take these pictures.

I love the hair, he really did do an amazing job. I’m not sure about the comb, it looks like it is being used upside-down. (I realize it is, but it seems too obvious…) Perhaps it is because of the exposed comb and the placement though…

Our face shapes are very similar - I have the high forehead too - and I want just about the exact same hairstyle for my day. It’s good to know that it looks so gorgeous!

Your hair looks gorgeous! I’ve been wanting to try something similar. Out of curiosity, how long is your hair? I’m growing mine out, but I’m afraid it’ll never be long enough to do something cute like this!

Ashley- I too am in the great growout of the year :) My hair is past my sholders just above my bra line. Tim was actually teasing me cause my hair was so long it took a lot of pins to keep it up. My hair is also really thick. I think if you get it to your shoulders you will have plenty.

I also thought it looked upside down. But then I thought about lucky horseshoe lore — it’s supposed to be hung as a “U” to “catch the luck”!

I *must* know which salon this Tim works for in Seattle- he made that come out EXACTLY right! I have to keep his name/salon for when my big day comes around!
