I <3 My Ceremony Location

July 26th, 2007 @ 5:45 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Geez, I have so much going on in my little head these days that I can’t even figure out what to blog about! So, my apologies for the lack of posts as the wedding approaches (1 1/2 months!!!). Last week we went to our venue and saw what the place looks like for the first time with all the flowers and trees in full bloom. I am SO excited about our ceremony, which will be held on the outdoor terrace (please Mr. Weatherman, bring me nice weather!), right outside our reception ballroom.

Here is the hallway that leads to our ballroom (we are in our own separate wing of the hotel). My mom absolutely loves this hallway and the cool glasswork, it’s very museum-like.

Our ceremony will be here! I love the backdrop of the forest preserve… so peaceful and serene. There’s also a lake back there with fish and swans.

Our event designer, who is doing all the fabric draping in the ballroom, is throwing in a fabric canopy arch as part of the package since we paid for the entire balance up front. I am hoping it will look something like this (but without all the dripping flowers everywhere).

(can’t remember where I got this pic, tell me if you know!)

And along every other row of chairs, my florist will hang a petal cone full of baby’s breath. Ok, stop right there. Did I just say “baby’s breath”!? Normally I am the first person to declare my aversion to the species, but I’ve realized that it looks good when used alone and not as a filler. My florist promised me that it would look great, so I am going to have to take her word for it!

For example:

How are you decorating your ceremony space?

That was a toughie for us. We had been to a backyard wedding soon after the engagement, and were really unimpressed with what they’d done, but the groom vetoed every idea I could come up with. Then one day (don’t remember when), one of the weddingbee bloggers (don’t remember who) posted a photo of another wedding at their site (don’t remember where), with ribbons hanging down from the trees surrounding a small table covered with a white tablecloth. Done!

ah, i love the drapery and hanging flowers. i’m trying to transform my very plain church into a more tropical look and feel. at the entrance, i’m draping strings of white dendrobium orchids so that guests will have to walk through this “curtain” of flowers and along the aisle will be a couple of manzanita trees also draped with the orchids. i’m debating about the pew decor but playing around with the idea of a hurricane lamp and candle with some dendros around it.
