Mum Pomanders

July 27th, 2007 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Gummi Bear

I found this really easy pomander instruction on the d*s guestblog a while back, conveniently when I was preparing for my housewarming/engagement party. I bought floral foam, mums, and pearl headed pins and set to work.

It isn’t perfect, but it was easy and quick - so if you wanted to make some, I definitely recommend the above instructions! I’m sure with a bit of practice, they won’t look nearly as… err.. oblong.

JenniferB: they were fresh, I suggest using younger ones as they have flatter bottoms.

Andrea: I made them the night before, but they lasted a couple days before starting to look… err.. dry.

EK: I didn’t look, but we bought a million mums - it takes a lot more than you think. And I recommend younger smaller mum heads as they are flat and sit better.

How much did it cost you for one?

ot: I made a loop and tied a knot in a ribbon and shoved it through the center and out the other side. I’m not sure how other people do it, but it worked for me!

charbear: any craft store will have them.

Michelle: the mums are fairly cheap if you get them from a wholesale florist, and otherwise the costs are negligible. floral foam comes in a large amount and is just a few dollars, and the same for a box of pins. It’s just up to the cost of the mums!

Woohoo! I went out and bought some green pom-poms soon after I saw this blog post when the handmade wedding series was going on. They are so easy to work with and the whole project was cheap with pearl headed sewing pins.

Your pomander looks great!

That turned out so awesome. I’m actually doing exactly that minus the pearl pins as my aisle decorations. Glad to see a pic of one to confirm my suspicion that they will look adorable! :D I may have to have my florist add in some crystal pins to bling them up, I love the extra touch!!
