Rat Pack Chic

July 27th, 2007 @ 12:56 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

As Mr. Peppermint tries to find inspiration for his wedding look, I keep fantasizing about a Rat Pack look. I think it stems from the fact that part of what I like about Palm Springs is the hip, 60’s style that the Rat Pack helped define. Heck, Palm Springs was a favorite hangout for most of those guys and the vibe can still be felt. Whatever the case, there is something undeniably slick about those slim black ties…

How is your groom planning on dressing? Where are you looking for inspiration?

Amen to black ties. Nothing screams “prom” more than the standby rental tux with color-coordinated tie/vest.

mind you, not so disheveled and disorganized (and only the ties & vests). he likes the fact that its ornate. which is totally ok with me :) even goes with the fall wedding.

My fiance can be a fashion divo. I have no idea what he is wearing. He has a jacket so far but is not sure about his pants, shirt, or sandals. I think for the shirt he is between a guayabera or goodness only knows what (a tight-fitting graphic T?). I half expect to walk down the aisle to a surprise, but I do trust his taste.

For your fiance I think Rat Pack or Shag cartoon imagery would be SWEET!

my FI is is wearing a classic black tux, ivory tie/vest combo. i begged him to wear a formal suit, particularly since my parents had one from their old business custom altered recently, but he insisted on a tux. i didn’t use the james bond tactic though (he loves bond), probably too late though b/c he picked a rental place. sigh…

M hubby was inspired by two things: his grandpa’s style when he was a youth, and a photo of a band in one of those expensive men’s magazines. We had his black suit custom made: narrower shoulders, shorter sleeves, narrower waist, higher crotch, etc. And a black skinny tie with a crisp white shirt. And amazing old timey lace-up boots. He looked amazing.

Our inspiration was more Johnny Cash–PIBlog. :-) Still classic and we loved it!
