The two most challenging parts of wedding planning for me were: finding jewelry and finding a makeup artist. Sure, I could have just visited a makeup artist at any makeup counter, or Macy’s or Nordstroms to find the latest in fashion jewelry. Well, call me picky but I was extremely particular in wanting my earrings and necklace to match all three of my dresses. But, six months into my wedding planning I found the right jewelry. Cool.
Two months left to my wedding day and I had no makeup artist booked. I had two makeup trials that went eh, so so. One of the reasons why I hate wearing foundation is that I always get ”itchy face” once it’s on for 15 minutes. My pores need to breathe! And after both makeup trials at Laura Mercier and Chanel, my face started itching. I specifically told them not to add too much foundation, but they just kept caking it on like butter. I was happy with the rest of the makeup application (eyes, lips, and cheeks). But once I stepped out of the mall and saw my face in natural light - my face was orange! Ack!
So thank God my sister offered to do my makeup for me. She went to MAC and purchased a ton of pencils, eyeshadow, blush, lipsticks, books, tips and all of that other good stuff. Growing up she was really artistic, so it didn’t surprise me that she was good at applying makeup (knowing which colors were complementary and also what looked aesthically pleasing to the eye). We had a trial that same week and I was impressed! My face matched my neck, and most importantly it didn’t itch (I think she used Clinique foundation) ! I looked like myself but with s-e-x-y, sultry, smokey eyes and a nice splash of color to my face. I wished I had taken photos but I forgot.
A week after my wedding, Susie, a weddingbee reader emailed me asking if my sister could do her makeup for her. She told us that she’d had previous trials with makeup artists, but wasn’t happy with the results. Just so both my sister and Susie were on the same page as to what kind of makeup “look” she wanted - my sister arranged a trial. The trial went great and she was booked. The day of the wedding my sister ended up doing both Susie and her sister’s makeup, so I’m assuming it went well. I have some before and after photos of her makeup but am waiting for her to email me the “ok” from her to post up her before and after photos.
In the meantime, here are some other photos of her work:
I think she was attending an event/dinner so she wanted light, fresh colors with some definition to her eyes.

Here is a photo of my makeup at about 10pm that evening.

If any Weddingbee readers are interested in my sister’s makeup artist services in the Dallas area, email me. She would definitely request you do at least one trial just so she gets a good idea of what you would like on your special day. ![]()
Oh wow! You looked beautiful! Your sister is really talented! I hope my makeup turns out as well as yours (and the other photos)!
