Family Wedding Photos

July 30th, 2007 @ 4:23 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

I’m compiling family wedding photos to be displayed at our reception. I’m hoping to arrange them in a frame (or frames?) as a visual family tree. After sending out an email to my family members, my Aunt sent me this one of my great-grandparents (my Dad’s Mother’s Parents), Viella & Otho. It’s so nice to have it preserved–and amusing to see how styles change! I’ll post some more of the photos as they come…

As an aside, my Grandmother (Dad’s Mom) & Aunt (Dad’s sister) both wore Viella’s dress.

These are my father’s paternal grandparents–sadly, he never knew them because they passed on while my grandfather was still a teenager. You’re probably wondering why there’s no wedding dress or flowers. Okay, they do not have a wedding photo. Truth be told (or at least, as speculated by my father), they most likely didn’t have the funds for such a novelty as a wedding photo (photography was relatively new, after all!). So, in lieu of a wedding photo, I’ve included their individual pictures.

Below we have great-grandfather Garfield. He’s pictured here with their horse, Ranger, who was a wedding present from his parents, Alex & Lilian.

And here we have great-grandmother, Pearl.

And I’m proud to present to you my parent’s wedding photos. This September (Sept. 10th, to be exact) they will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. To celebrate, they are going to Hawaii for two weeks!! Thirty years ago they spent their honeymoon in Hawaii and will even be staying at one of the same hotels!

For you LA brides out there, this wedding cake is a Hansen’s cake! Their reception was held at the Odyssey Restaurant overlooking the San Fernando Valley–a favorite place my family still goes to on special occasions…

My parents got married in 1977 also and my mom had those same bridesmaids dresses but in seafoam green!

Hansen’s is so good, and yet their cakes still kind of look like that one, which was the height of fashion 30 years ago!! And your g-grandma Pearl is beautiful!!!

i love these old photos! i’m also displaying family photos around on the tables during cocktail hour. i think guests definitely get a kick out of seeing these nostalgic pictures. then maybe it will get people to circulate around more and meet one another as they look at the pictures.

Right now I have the Carpenters’ “We’ve Only Just Begun” in my head — possible soundtrack to your parents’ wedding?

I love the family wedding photo display… but I understand it doesn’t always fit, e.g., for families with divorced parents.

We also collected wedding pictures from our friends and family for display around our wedding site. All of the 1970’s wedding photos taken inside a church looked exactly like your parents’ one. I actually jumped a little because I thought you might be related to my husband!

My mother had those same bridesmaids dresses in yellow! It must have been a popular style “back in the day”! It’s so great to see old wedding pics, thanks for sharing!

Those are great! My mom’s wedding dress was VERY similar to your mom’s with the long flowing transparent sleeves- it must have been popular 30 years ago! Thanks for sharing those!

My parents go married about a year after your’s and the dresses were very similar, except they had a “rainbow wedding”. The bridesmaids wore hats similar to your mother’s and also carried parasols! The guys had tan suits with chocolate brown accents. Very 70s!
