I Need A Drink (or two or three)…

July 30th, 2007 @ 6:42 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Actually, no, I’m not a big drinker (in fact, I am a total light-weight) but I still love the idea of a signature drink! I’ve been scouring the web for some fun, fruity mixed drink ideas that will be easy for our venue to concoct (at no extra charge). So that means I must stick within the basic alcohol types/brands included in the package and the usual mixers. Nothing too fancy schmancy, but definitely tasty!

Usually when I go to a bar, I order my standards: Red Bull vodka, amaretto sour, sex on the beach or malibu & pineapple. I was hoping for some more interesting options! Going out and buying all that liquor just to come up with my own recipes is not an option, so please offer your tried and true suggestions (preferably non-martinis, cuz apparently those cost extra too!)

The Challenge: Come up with two yummy signature drink recipes composed of the following liquors:

- Absolut vodka
- Tanqueray Gin
- Johnny Walker Black
- Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
- Crown Royal Whiskey
- Makers Mark Whiskey
- Christian Brothers Brandy
- Peach Schnapps
- Hiram Amaretto
- Irish Cream

(I have no idea why they offer 3 different types of whiskey! Blech!)

And the usual mixers:

- Pineapple juice
- Orange juice
- Grenadine
- Club Soda
- Coke/Sprite/etc.
- I’m sure there are more basic mixers that I am forgetting…

Help! I need some ideas! Cheers! ;)

If you go to http://www.webtender.com they have a program called “In My Bar” which allows you to select your alchol(and mixer) options and then it tells you what drinks you can make from that.

are you serving wine? if they have some cheap bottles of wine, perhaps you can have them make some pitchers of sangria: wine, club soda, sugar, ice and some fruit. fun, fruity, and refreshing! and you can have one with white wine and one with red. of course you would probably have to pay a little extra to get some fresh fruit chopped up and thrown in there, but the good thing is that they can mass produce it using only one or two bottles of wine.

You forgot the cranberry juice — it’s a pretty standard mixer ;)

I suggest taking some basic cocktail recipes, change them a little bit and renaming them (you can put the original names in parentheses on your bar menu). You can name them after places you’ve visited, after people in your bridal party, etc.

That way, you really get to have a “signature” cocktail. Instead of “vodka and cranberry”, you can call it a “blushing bride” (lame, I know, but that’s off the top of my head).

Otherwise, there really is no point. A screwdriver isn’t really a “signature” drink.

007 (like James Bond)
Shot of vodka, fill cup 3/4 with sprite, finish off with OJ!
Tastes good plus it has a pretty cool name (I always make fun of my best friend when she orders them!!)

http://www.webtender.com/ has a feature where you can enter what alcohols you have and it will tell you all the drinks you can make. Good luck!

One of our favorites is the sloe gin fizz which is:

Grenadine
Sprite (7-Up)
Gin
Cherry for garnish

There are plenty of things you can rename it because its pink and sparkly, and very delicious. :)

“Butterfly Kiss
2 oz. Peach Schnapps
2 tbsp. Cherry Juice (Grenadine)
3 oz. Cranberry Juice
2 whole Cherries”

I thought Grenadine was pomegranate syrup (and the name comes from the french word for pomegranate, grenade).

grenadine is typically cherry juice. it does come from the french for pomegranate, but grenadine is what flavors cherry coke or shirley temples (according to wikipedia).

this is a drink i usually use with raspberry syrup. i dont know how it would taste with grenadine, but.. why not?

fill glass 1/2 with ice

splash of syrup on bottom of glass

about 1/3 glass of orange juice, hitting the ice to layer the colors

about 1/3 glass sprite

top off with shot of vodka

doesn’t have to be exact.. =] its pretty popular with girls

mmmm….gin martini (dirty)!!

Gin
Olive juice
Vermouth
3 olives

Another option (not sure if you are having champagne) is the bellini

Champagne
Peach Nectar

or the standard Mimosa (OJ instead of peach)

The three whiskeys are 3 different types:
Crown Royal–basic Canadian whiskey
Maker’s Mark–bourbon
Johnny Walker Black–scotch

You could try a mint julep:
Bourbon, mint, sugar, and a touch of water.
Very tasty.
