Trash Bash In The OC

July 30th, 2007 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Trashthedress.com held an insanely fun “OC Trash Bash” yesterday (which many girls knew about from my WB posting…hooray!) in Laguna Beach. 10 brides showed up (with 9 grooms) in their full bridal fare… and then there was me. You see, I wanted to go so badly that I got myself a replacement dress to play with in the water, since my dress couldn’t come out and play. The OC Register captured the “behind the scenes” action of the shoot and wrote up an article for the paper today… and we’ll be getting proofs and CDs of our images back from photographers over the next few weeks. Heck, some of my photos are already posted to one of the photographer’s blogs!

I can’t express to you how enjoyable it is to get a big long fancy dress soaking wet and to splash in the waves. It’s the opposite of everything ladylike and formal about a wedding… and it’s all about pure fun! Now I know not everyone has a WARM ocean to hop into for a shoot like this, but in all honesty, any method of getting the gown dirty would be a blast.

(yup… that’s me trying not to peek out of my dress with Greg Bumatay behind the camera)

Sure it’s a little bit of excess… but a lot of these brides are getting their dresses dry cleaned and donating them to Brides Against Breast Cancer. And for us, it was free… so why not? And I must give a shout-out to my groomsless buddy Kelli and knot super-star Clara for making the day even more fun!

What a complete waste of money. Those wedding dresses could have been donated to a consignment shop so that a less fortunate bride could have had the opportunity of having a nice wedding gown.

Oh fun! I want to do that!

Kate - some of the brides are donating their dresses, after they get them dry cleaned. It’s just sand and salt water! Most people will never give up their bridal gown anyhow… it will stay in a closet, nicely preserved for something. At least they got to have one more super fun day in their dress!

I can not wait to do this after the wedding. Those pictures are so cool.

Kate- These pictures are not for everyone and as stated before in some case the gowns can be clean and be just as good as new.

My sister just did a Chicago trash the dress photo shoot with http://www.chicagotrashthedress.com at the beach and she got some absolutely amazing photos to treasure. Her dress got sandy and dirty but we hosed it down and with a good pro cleaning, it will be ready to resell. The buyer will never have a clue as to the wild history of the dress. The shoot was done in Lake Michigan. I can’t wait to do it. I am booked for next summer. Allison
