Mrs. Lemon, Los Angeles/Monterey Age and Occupation in 06: 26, Graduate Student (Public Policy) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Environmental Consultant Engagement Date: April 7, 2006 Wedding Date: July 7, 2007 Venue: Rosary Chapel & Monterey Marriott, Monterey, CA About Me: My FI and I met online, but we like to tell people that we met at a "cookie shop" which is the technical location of our first encounter. He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!
About Mrs. Lemon

Same vs. Different

July 31st, 2007 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Mr. Lemon and I took different approaches to the bridal party gifts. I went and got all of my girls the exact same thing. He, on the other hand, went in search of something different for his guys.

For the girls:

A gold Kate Spade clutch purse.

A cardigan from Anthropologie

and their shirt for the next day!

For the boys:

Mr. Lemon fell in love with these little bronze Frogman scuptures when we were shopping in Carmel one day, and wanted to get them for his guys. He kept Forest (the green frog) and gave the other four to his guys, so they’d all have a little piece of the set. So it’s not “that different” but enough to personalize the gifts.

So whose path will/did you follow? Did everyone get identical gifts, were they personalized, or did you get everyone something unique?

We’re doing all the same for our wedding party…

Boys: SilkScreened necktie for the big day, and wood grain nixon cufflinks (oooh and I silkscreened funny tux t-shirts in our wedding colors for the rehersal)

Girls: Brown peacoats with a supercute hand-crafted birdie brooch, and I got an empire waisted ivory peacoat for myself to wear over my dress (fall wedding photo-op)

After lots of my pleading we did all the same thing.

Girls: Pink and white toile Pine Cone Hill pj’s, pearl necklaces, monogrammed candles, and monogrammed beach towels (for our girls weekend in Charleston)

Boys: set of Wiliams and Sonoma monogrammed highball glasses. My fiance wanted to get all the guys different things that reflected each of their personalities, but he has 10 groomsmen (crazy I know) and it got too difficult to get everyone the “perfect” gift.

Ms. Lemon- love the Kate Spade clutches by the way.

All my girls are getting the same thing, but my fiance is having so much trouble deciding on something for the guys, period. I see the gift as “thanks for participating in our special day,” he sees it as “here is a gift to summarize my entire history with you” and there is no convincing him otherwise! Oh well, got mine figured out. ;)

got the gals all the same thing: entrance to our spa day at http://www.glenivy.com, pearl cluster necklace and mother of pearl box, foot petals (www.footpetals.com) for their shoes (which are free cuz FI works for a shoe manufacturing company), and a monogram pendant which will be pinned to their bouquet.

the guys… i dunno what he’s getting the guys…

Where did you get the clutches? They’re gorgeous, but I don’t see them on the KS website. Thanks!

Guys loved their (matching) Tiffany & Co. sterling moneyclips. For the girls — my sisters — I knew they tend to lose things so didn’t put all their eggs in one basket; they got an assortment of fun toiletries and some things that would be durable (not used up), including some leather Coach accessories (from the Coach outlet store) and sterling jewelry. Spent about $100pp.

P.S. I agree w/ Susan — totally don’t get the frogs. Would be hard for me to be convinced that a bunch of young guys would each want a frog nick-knack? Maybe there’s an inside joke among them, tho.

I think the frogs are cute! Probably just a momento that will remind the GMs of Mr. Lemon. I’ll probably follow the same route as your Hubby, get the BMs the same gifts, but a variation on each.

And, in true man fashion, I think my FI will be giving out Liquor. Boring but everyone wants it!

I bought the clutches last year from Kate Spade… so sadly they are long gone :( The last I saw of anything from that line was holiday time.

As for the frogs, they’re bronze gallery collectibles. Mr. Lemon and I have spotted them in quite a few art galleries, and he’d love a big sculpture… but those run around $1500+. His groomsmen are all 30+ and he couldn’t bare giving them something he’s gotten before for a wedding: cufflinks/ties/moneyclips. Plus… these guys all collect stuff… so it worked perfectly. :)

Our girls all got necklaces and earrings I made in the wedding colors, and the guys got all different cufflinks: compasses for the traveler, LPs for the blues singer, and space invaders for the computer guy. We know the guys don’t already have cufflinks, since they all required a tutorial to be able to put them on, and one of the girls gave me the big compliment of voluntarily wearing her “bridesmaid jewelry” in real life.

Since everyone knows me as a Tiffany’s girl, and everyone knows my fiance is the one responsible for this, we’re going where else but Tiffany’s!

The girls are getting those sterling silver necklaces that look like a pearl necklace. The boys are getting an engraved silver money clip with giftcards to their favorite stores/restaurants inside the clip.

guys are getting the same gift: a silver pocket watch
girls are getting a little of both: they’re all getting the same necklace, then I had little personalized 1154 lill bags made for them in colors each of them likes.

Got everyone something different, although all the girls got a few things the same- B7BW soap, gel & lotion, but each in a different scent. Everything else was picked for the individual.

So far I have my 7 bridesmaids personalized stationery from Rockscissorpaper- they all got different styles. Also, I got them (faux) oversized pearl earrings that they will hopefully wear at the wedding. Might try to get them something else too. I am letting my fiance choose the guy gifts but I am trying make him start thinking about it.

To back up Mr and Mrs Lemon’s choices, my husband was the recipient of these little guys and although he and I are both not “stuff” people, we both really liked this gift. They are really cool and since all Mr Lemons guys are friends (with each other), it’s neat that they each have a different, but matching gift from the wedding.
