Family Wedding Photos

July 30th, 2007 @ 4:23 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

I’m compiling family wedding photos to be displayed at our reception. I’m hoping to arrange them in a frame (or frames?) as a visual family tree. After sending out an email to my family members, my Aunt sent me this one of my great-grandparents (my Dad’s Mother’s Parents), Viella & Otho. It’s so nice to have it preserved–and amusing to see how styles change! I’ll post some more of the photos as they come…

As an aside, my Grandmother (Dad’s Mom) & Aunt (Dad’s sister) both wore Viella’s dress.

He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!

Trash Bash In The OC

July 30th, 2007 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Trashthedress.com held an insanely fun “OC Trash Bash” yesterday (which many girls knew about from my WB posting…hooray!) in Laguna Beach. 10 brides showed up (with 9 grooms) in their full bridal fare… and then there was me. You see, I wanted to go so badly that I got myself a replacement dress to play with in the water, since my dress couldn’t come out and play. The OC Register captured the “behind the scenes” action of the shoot and wrote up an article for the paper today… and we’ll be getting proofs and CDs of our images back from photographers over the next few weeks. Heck, some of my photos are already posted to one of the photographer’s blogs!

Before And After

July 30th, 2007 @ 3:14 pm by Mrs. Apple

The two most challenging parts of wedding planning for me were: finding jewelry and finding a makeup artist. Sure, I could have just visited a makeup artist at any makeup counter, or Macy’s or Nordstroms to find the latest in fashion jewelry. Well, call me picky but I was extremely particular in wanting my earrings and necklace to match all three of my dresses.  But, six months into my wedding planning I found the right jewelry. Cool.

Two months left to my wedding day and I had no makeup artist booked. I had two makeup trials that went eh, so so. One of the reasons why I hate wearing foundation is that I always get ”itchy face” once it’s on for 15 minutes. My pores need to breathe! And after both makeup trials at Laura Mercier and Chanel, my face started itching. I specifically told them not to add too much foundation, but they just kept caking it on like butter. I was happy with the rest of the makeup application (eyes, lips, and cheeks). But once I stepped out of the mall and saw my face in natural light - my face was orange! Ack!

Exactly What I Was Looking For

July 30th, 2007 @ 2:14 pm by Mrs. Corn

I have been on the lookout for a silver chain necklace with a pearl drop on it for the girls to wear at the wedding. I have diligently gone to every single jewelry link I have ever seen on Weddingbee, and unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything that was in my price range…i.e. slim-to-none.

It isn’t that I don’t want to splurge on my maids…it’s just that we already purchased cashmere sweaters for them as their gifts, and they were a bit hefty in price; I have also purchased each of them a more personal gift that I will give to them at the bridesmaids’ brunch on the morning of the wedding.

Thankfully, here in Boston we have a store called So Good Jewelry. The website doesn’t seem to be functioning, so instead here’s a picture of the really great necklace I found…

Do’s and Don’t’s: Glamour

July 30th, 2007 @ 1:34 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Yesterday there was an airing of Glamour’s Wedding Dos and Don’ts on the Style network. Since Mr. Kiwi quickly commandeered the remote, I only saw a snippet of it, but I had already gathered some intelligence about what Glamour thinks is right and wrong.

Apparently, wearing a tiara is wrong, only to be considered for pageant winners and actual princesses. And you know, Star Jones. Do's and Don't's: Glamour : wedding los angeles Happy019 happy019 Although the models wore these hideous elaborate creations (much like the little princess pageant at your local county fair), I hardly think they should make such a sweeping generalization like that. Okay, okay, maybe it’s because I have one. Technically, it isn’t a “tiara” per se, and it’s not a crown, either. It could be a headband, too, you know. I’m rationalizing, I know.

Anyway, Glamour also mentioned not having an elaborate veil if your dress isn’t plain. A few people mentioned the dress being the main event, or in the case of an heirloom veil, the veil being the main event. Not that I’m planning on getting a lace-festooned veil to pair with my beading-encrusted, embroidered dress, but I figure, wear what you want to wear. Of course, I am borrowing an embroidered veil, so… grain of salt, ladies.

About Mrs. Bell Pepper

My maid of honor was the first to get her hair done by Cali, my hair/makeup stylist. I remember her saying to me after getting her hair done, “Can I pleease take Cali with me back to Chicago?” Haha, all the girls loved Cali! She did hair and makeup for me, my mom, and the entire bridal party, and somehow without assistance she did everything just in time for our ceremony. She did everything my girls requested, including changing hairstyles at the very last minute to concealing tan lines. She has an amazing sense of style - I love her modern take on wedding updos. It seems like every style she does is so unique and different. I featured below some photos from our wedding and many photos of Philly brides who highly recommend her.

Make Me Over At Home!

July 30th, 2007 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Violet

One of my best friends, also my BM, came over yesterday to do a first trial. It was very exciting as I’ve never been made over before, nor am I a big make-up kind of girl. On most days, I leave the house with nothing on… and on less lazier days, I add a bit of eye shadow and powder. My BM did the whole works on me and it took a little less than 20 minutes.

Adventures in DIY

July 30th, 2007 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Licorice

As a scrapbooker, I was excited to papercraft my own wedding stationery. I’m the traditional sort who loves patterned papers and glue. When looking for inspiration images to begin my own little Save the Date project, I had a change of heart. I began to love the look of computer generated designs. Hmmm….Perhaps it’s time to get….digital?

I’m Just Detail Oriented! (Anal)

July 30th, 2007 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Gummi Bear

Mr. GB and I aren’t spending a lot of time thinking about the huge aspects of the wedding. We’re not fussing over flowers (I trust my floral designer 120%) and not making a big deal over linens or plates. It’s all about the details for us. While I was completely happy with the idea of standard white this and standard that, I didn’t want anything on the table that wasn’t either completely blend-in-plain or part of my.. er.. vision. It occured to me I didn’t want standard ugly salt and pepper shakers, and toyed with the idea of vintage ones, or most likely, none at all.

Then luckily, I found a picture of these little sake cups in a magazine, and since research and digging around for information is part of my job, I hunted down the location and found that the manufacturer/distributors of these cups was here in San Francisco at a place called Tampopo. A puppy dog face and a little tugging and we drove across the bay to pick up a bunch of these little cups as salt and pepper bowls. We figured two sets per table would be enough since we don’t expect people really to be seasoning their food.

But I hate salt and pepper bowls that you use your fingers in. It’s just icky to me - who knows where the finger has been! There are foul things on fingers and I don’t want them in my communal salt bowl. On went the quest for spoons.
