Washington, DC is a magical place when its cherry blossoms are in bloom. Every year at the end of March or beginning of April, just when winter has ended and we’re feeling most desperate for spring, this ordinarily somber city comes alive for one precious week, maybe two.

So when I started to think about planning our wedding, I immediately thought of a cherry blossom theme in hope of capturing some of that magic.
This is money I can save to use for something else, but these are so pretty! I mean, I’m going to get cold and I’ll need something to keep me warm aside from Mr. CB’s arms, right? I can’t just wear some ol’ peacoat - wouldn’t I want something to complement my gorgeous gown?
I saw a couple wraps that I thought were just so lovely. I don’t think I’ll get one seeing as I can’t reuse it afterwards (my rule of thumb with wedding purchases aside from the gown, of course) but it’s just sitting there in the back of my mind. * sigh * So pretty.

Because we’re having a destination wedding of sorts, we were thinking that after our rehearsal dinner it might be nice to have an informal ice cream social at the hotel. My cousin did a similar thing two years ago when he got married outside of Lake Tahoe. At first I didn’t think to suggest this idea for fear of the cost and coordination of another wedding event. Though, after talking with my family, I think we’ll be able to keep it all under control. It doesn’t need to be fancy–after all, we just wanted a chance for our guests to socialize before the big day.
Doesn’t sound possible does it? Well I’m skeptical, but I’m going to find out for myself. I decided to spend some serious money on “as painless as possible waxing” from Bliss Spa in New York City. I’m going to have my legs waxed (never done this before) as well as a bikini, eyebrow and lip wax to prepare for the wedding, but more importantly, the honeymoon! I hate shaving my legs and then getting into a saltwater ocean — OUCH. So I hope this will do the trick for most of the trip anyway.

I saw this dress on the left randomly as I was surfing the net (if you know who the maker is please let me know, so I can give credit). The dress style is called Tulip and it sells for $295. But look what I already bought from Nordstrom - it’s so similar but I only paid $62!!!
I like the mini sweetheart neckline on mine too.
On Model: Tulip; On me: Nordstrom dress
My MOH and I took some pictures together to see how it looks with my gown. The bm dress’ neckline also complements/matches my wedding gown!
We tried it with a blue sash and a black one just to see (Those are not our actual choices but they were the only 2 ribbons we had lying around at the time). Please ignore the heavy wrinkles on the bottom of the bm dress. We were too lazy to iron it out. ![]()

When I thought I was done with the bm dress, look what I found– a gorgeous BCBG dress. This floor length dress is in a flowy chiffon with a silk bow that makes it a bit more formal than the Nordie’s one. Excuse the excess length (I actually tiptoed as tall as I could
), the dress will fall better after hemming.

So now it comes down between these 2 choices and I left it up to the BMs themselves to choose which ever one they like better/feel more comfortable in since I’m fine with both.

No beehive today. Please leave your questions on our new boards.
Thanks and have a super fantabulous holiday weekend! ![]()
..how I wish I had illustrator instead of you. Actually, I do, somewhere, but I’m using photoshop for easy-peasy stuff like this.
Mr. GB and I are taking on the daunting task of wrapping our favors one by one. 300 macaroons each individually wrapped with cello paper, tied on either ends with ribbons, and a sticker to keep them closed. I know, everyone has said this is total insanity to attempt the day before the wedding, but I think we’ll survive. We have friends. We may NOT have friends after we force them into this for a full day of torture and callouses, but by then, the work will be done, so it’s ok if they hate us! All for the sake of cuteness am I willing to give up many friendships!
We have cut ribbon into 6″ strips, we have the cello wrap… uncut, but it will be! And now the stickers, this is the design I came up with:

Beyond being kinda cheesy and not particularly interesting, which is the best in terms of color?
I’m pretty cheap when it comes to most items, but the three things I splurge on are gadgets, handbags, and beauty products. And as a natural researcher by heart (and trade), I research and test items from all three categories to death before making any purchases, especially if a lot of money is involved. While I can go on and on about all three topics, I decided to share my favorite beauty products.
(Before I start, I want to say that I have an extreme case of combination skin. My t-zone is a natural oil well, but my cheeks and chin can become so dry to the point of flakiness. So while some of these products may work well for other people with combination skin, it may not with others.)
First up….my skincare routine……
My favorite lotions and creams:

I’ve been scanning pictures for our slideshow and it’s brought back a flood of childhood memories. Poring over my family’s old photo albums has actually been one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. It’s so much fun reliving my childhood!
I just discovered these awesome cool gadgets today. I was in desperate need for a perforating blade for a birthday present I was making for Mr. CB’s birthday. PaperSource was out of blades for my cutter BUT they had these awesome mini gadgets made by Tonic Studios. Check out this mini perforator . . . it was $4.30 at PaperSource .

My parents more than approve of Mr. T, but we discovered that my father is the old-fashioned type when it comes to engagements. Like, really old-fashioned — he demanded three cows as a dowry in exchange for my hand! Every time we brought up our upcoming engagement, Dad would say it couldn’t become official until he received his three cows….
Well, as with all problems in life, I turned to Ebay for the solution. I picked up this winning trio of ladies for $1.00 ($5 after shipping):

The invites are stamped, most of the addresses are in, and thankfully, we are ready to mail. Well, most of them. A few will be given by hand, as the guests are moving or the addresses are unknown, things like that. After work today (I get out early- yay for Labor Day!), I’m going to go home, pick up my box of invitations and head to the local post office.
Lately I seem to have a grudge for all post offices. At the office we have a fantastic mail person, all mail is usually in by 11am, sometimes even hand delivered. When he is on vacation, or takes a day off, we have the most horrible mail delivery person imaginable. Mail doesn’t come in until four, and mostly it’s not even delivered correctly. Take the instance with my return stamp: I came to work at 7am, checking the online tracking for the stamp I’ve been waiting for. Boy, was I surprised to see “Notice Left” at 5:32pm the previous day. First of all, there was no notice. Second of all, we’re an office building that closes at 5pm, and she knows this. Mail is supposed to be delivered by 5pm to businesses in our ‘hood.
Our cake baker has finally returned one of my messages and now I am officially on my own for my wedding cake. Strangely, I feel relieved. I won’t be stuck with a cake that I haven’t seen before the wedding and I won’t hurt my baker’s feelings if I show up with a backup cake. She’s a friend and having a tough time, so instead of being irritated I have nothing but sympathy for what she is going through.
Anyhow, full speed ahead!

Often, Hispanic Catholic weddings include the ritual of the arras, or unity coins, which the groom presents to the bride (I bet there are others cultures that do it, too, and I just don’t know about it: please excuse my ignorance and be sure to tell us who else incorporates this tradition!).
Arras consist of 13 gold coins. When the groom gives these to his bride, he’s symbolically saying that he will be there to provide for her. The number of coins is also significant: they represent Jesus Christ and the 12 apostles.
As you can probably guess from one of my last posts, as a now Jewish bride, I didn’t feel comfortable incorporating this tradition into my own wedding, but I do fondly remember that my oldest brother did, and I can appreciate how beautiful some of these coins and sets can be.
