After receiving a positive response to my save the date cards, you’d think I’d be all gung-ho about designing my own invitations. Basically, that wasn’t not happening.
Making those Save the Dates was so time consuming, and I didn’t feel I saved that much money. As personally gratifying as the experience was, I didn’t want to stress myself out with the invitations. It was finals week when I made this decision, mind you.
I chose to swallow the cost of hiring a professional to custom design the invites. I could have ordered from a catalog like sane people, but I really wanted to have a personal touch. More succinctly, I had something very specific in mind: I wanted the image of a phonograph emblazoned upon the RSVP card. Just in case you were wondering, yes, I’m a weirdo.
And now for the really big question: who could fulfill my goofball request at a decent price?
There are so many wonderfully talented designers available to brides who all do consulting through e-mail. After digging, my final choice was Wiley-Valentine. All you have to do is look at their online portfolio to know why. I loved their use of type and flourishes to create images that can be either modern or vintage. All in all, they spoke my design language and captured my heart.
An example of Wiley-Valentine’s work (These are actually Mrs. Beetle’s invitations!)
By the way, a week or so after I received my invite proofs, I saw this post on Weddingbee. Maybe I’m not such a weirdo after all! ![]()
