our holidays always surround being with family- we don’t get to spend nearly as much time as we’d like during the rest of the year so no matter what it is we’re doing, as long as it’s with family, that’s all that matters.
My honey, son and I enjoy sitting around the christmas tree and just enjoying each others company. My fiance and I exchange gifts christmas eve after the little one is in bed, so we can enjoy a few moments together ![]()
Visiting family and playing video games. We used to play Animal Crossings but this year we’ll probably play some Wii games.
Being with our families and our dog, and eating as much yummy food as possible.
we kick off our holiday season by going black friday shopping!! so that means camping out overnight at places like best buy, circuit city. Then putting up the xmas tree and lights throughout the house…and hosting xmas dinner for our family.
We have Thanksgiving with his folks, Christmas with my folks, and NYE with our friends. ![]()
we spend time with our families, but we really like the time we get to ourselves
We eat dinner at my mom’s place on Chistmas Eve , stay up till midnight and the entire family opens gifts!
We spend Christmas eve & morning w. FI’s family then drive 5 hours to spend the rest of the week with my family. Double the love!
We generally go to visit his parents in Texas. This year - our first Christmas as husband and wife! - I really hope we’re allowed to sleep in the same bed! ![]()
FI and I are a little crazy during the holidays. We spend Christmas Eve with his family in MA/RI and then drive back to NJ during the night. We make it to Christmas at my mom’s house (5 minutes from us in NJ) by 1 and usually eat around 2.
We’ve done this for a couple of years now and it seems to work out. Luckily FI doesn’t mind driving at night in the least as he’s such a night owl!
We love spending the holidays with family and close friends. Sometimes though…we like to take the vacation days and travel!
The magnets/ornaments look awesome!
We like to spend it together - especially in a foreign, exotic locale.
We spend the holiday eating with family, and snowboarding with friends!
We open our presents a day or two early, for one, then on Christmas day we make a big turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, candied yams, homemade rolls and pumpkin pie… and of course his beer.
We usually spend Thanksgiving with one set of parents and Christmas with the other. This year, we’re spending them both in our own home!
We love to spend the holiday’s visiting our families from all over the bay area. Usually we will visit relatives and friends from San Francisco, Pacifica, Daly City, San Jose, Stockton and then up to Livermore!
We’ll be traveling around Indiana- his family’s in the southeastern part and mine’s in the northwest. I think next year we’re going to protest and make them come to visit us in the south during the cold months!
We have our “Orphans Christmas”. We host a huge dinner at our place for all our friends who, like us, don’t have family in the area. We’ve become our own big family. ![]()
Last Xmas, we were in NYC for my surprise proposal. So romantic!
Spending it with family, stuffing our mouths with lots of good food ![]()
last year we went to my FI bothers house.
this year we are going to my parents.
Hooray!!
Family! Family! Family! We will spend Thanksgiving with his side in Jersey and Christmas with my side in ATL. New Year’s is going to be just the two of us - hopefully in Vegas this year :)!
Hopefully not in the Denver airport waiting for luggage for 8 hours again!
My FI and I now live in SF, so we always go back to the midwest and east coast to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with our families.
It is still up in the air. It depends if we or he has to go back to Vietnam to visit is ailing Grandmother. If he/we end up not going, it will be Christmas Eve with his family, then after we are done with dinner and presents, we will drive up to Northern California and spend Christmas morning with my family. Luckily both our companies shut down until New Year’s. ![]()
we like to spend our holidays with my family since he doesn’t have any. lots of food, and food coma. and best of all, Black Friday and after christmas sale shopping!!! and we cuddle a lot more i think during the holidays… haha!
We have purposefully gathered as many christmas movies as we can find and we watch them during November and December. We have also get a personalized ornament for each other since we started dating!
Baking cookies for family and friends, and just spending quality time with the people we love. We both lived out of state for a few years when we were younger and really appreciate and cherish the time with family - especially around the holidays.
We always spend it with one of our families, but not both since they are overseas!
Hitting up all the “sides” of our families. Usually entails 5 houses over 2 days!
Sitting on the front porch all bundled and with thermoses of hot chocolate watching the snow. I’d do it all night every night, if I could.
So many people I know have so much angst around family Christmas and gift exchanging, but I enjoy Christmas with my family immensely. I think it’s because we don’t wring our hands too much about the politic side of the gift exchange, and throw more emphasis on the food. My fiance, though also Catholic, doesn’t have any family Christmas traditions, so it was so easy absorbing him into mine!
We start with a Christmas eve feast at grandma’s followed by gift exchange around the Christmas tree (which my cousins and I insist on putting up even if my grandma doesn’t want the hassle.) Next morning, we go to mass, followed by brunch back at home. It always involves at least ham, fresh fruit, cheeses and bread. Then… we go to the movies! We’ve been doing this for over a decade, and when we started, the theatres were empty Christmas day, but in recent years we’ve had to go early or have crappy seats. For dinner, we have a very relaxed Chinese hot pot dinner (broth fondue.)
Watching our fave Christmas movies surrounded by our loved ones!
Drive through six hour blizzards to visit family. It’s worth the sore back from hunching over the wheel.
With family around a fire place! And watching The Christmas Story over and over!
visiting either of our families for xmas day and then having a weekend for nye with our friends
This will be our first Christmas spending it together rather than with our separate families. I can’t wait, even though I know it will be agonizing to decide which house to wake up on christmas morning.
So far, we have had to spend every Christmas apart, as my family lives in Kansas City, and his lives in Tampa. But after the wedding, we’ll be alternating each year between families!
visiting with family and eating delicious leftovers all day long!
deciding whether or not to spend it in TN with my fam or NJ with his ![]()
We like to spend the holidays in San Diego, going to Dog Beach as much as possible.
My FH is a chef, so we like to eat all sorts of ridiculously bad-for-you treats, visit with family and have them visit us, and bask in the great holiday atmosphere!
we always have a big family party with close family - our families live just over an hour apart so we did the xmas eve/xmas day thing last year.
for the last couple of years, i’ve been gearing us up with some gingerbread 3D structures (after taking the wilton cake deco classes i somehow got hooked on gingerbread)…here’s last year’s carousel: http://cmu.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2021179&l=68fed&id=4803325
I usually make a holiday calendar for the weeks leading up to Christmas and New Year. Each day a put something special on there like “going to see Christmas lights” or “cookie decorating night”. We love it and it helps us to spend some quailty time together and not rush through the holiday season.
We love to bake and do crafts! We usually make tons of cookies and pies and while we are waiting to things to bake, we do crafts like making stockings or decorating gift boxes to put all the treats in!
In my family, Christmas pretty much lasts the month of December– the tree and decorations go up right after Thanksgiving and Christmas carols can always be heard in the background. We make cookies the week before and have a huge, fancy meal on Christmas eve and open all presents from the extended family. Then we wake up in the morning and exchange gifts, and have a simple brunch. It sounds pretty traditional, but in myfamily, Christmas is magic. There is so much effort madeto transform the house and make sure each person has one totally unexpected but secretly longed for gift. It’s perfect.
Eating as much food as possible and watching the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
with family & friends…and lots of food. we host a party every year and its great!
Running hectic between 2 houses with all the fun yelling in between- just kidding! They’re somewhat relaxing ![]()
shuttling back and forth between as many families as possible! to his mom’s xmas eve afternoon, to his aunt’s xmas eve, then to my parents later that night, xmas morning at my parents, xmas day at my aunt’s! whew! it is almost as exhausting as it sounds!
This holiday season we’ll just be back from our honeymoon (we get home Christmas Eve!) so it will be a mad dash to get to Grandma’s in time!
Cooking, eating and spending time with our families. And I can’t forget a little snuggling by the fire.
Our families both have the same tradition…Christmas eve dinner with the family. Unfortunately, my family is in Canada and his is in California so we haven’t shared a Christmas together.
We have no idea what we’re going to do once we have children.
I do return to spend NYE with FI though.
We like hanging out with our family and doing nothing. I like doing lots of baking, too!
The Holidays are always craziness!! Visiting my Family, His Mom’s Side, His Dad’s Side, and Exchanging gifts with friends….We finally get to have alone time and exchange gifts ourselves….Oh yeah gorging ourselves and fattening up are always our favorite..=) This X-Mas we won’t though……I gotta fit into my dress in the Spring
Quality time with family and friends eating and playing board games
Spending as much time with our families as possible and making sure that wherever we spend Thanksgiving- we spend Black Friday shopping with our moms!
just home with the new in-laws in our holiday Pajamas sipping hot choco.
we’ve been spending holidays with his family, and there’s so much bustle during the day and barely any downtime, so we like to sneak out of his parents house after everyone’s asleep and go on long walks through his childhood neighborhood - it’s so relaxing and at the same time feels like we’re high schoolers sneaking out!
I’m looking forward to spending it together once we are married. Before we were engaged, we would spend holidays with our respective families. I always miss him on Christmas morning! I’m not sure how we’ll divide up the holidays between families, but I’m looking forward to doing it together.
Black Friday shopping at an outlet mall and spending time w/family.
We’re looking forward to seeing our families over the holidays since they both live far away from us… Of course we’ll have to go shopping for my yearly ornament - it’s a tradition my parents started for me when I was a baby. They bought me one ornament to represent every year and something special that happened in it. I knew Justin was a keeper when he bought me an ornament for last year in hopes that it would be my “yearly” ornament… So sweet!
We mainly celebrate Thanksgiving because meaningfully, it is the holiday that brought us together. To not spend it with our families in a fine Thanksgiving bash to remember would be sinful. We do a traditional “orange elephant” instead of a white elephant at Thanksgiving. It’s fun to prep for the holidays!!!
We kind of split our holidays, but mostly spend them with my family here in Washington State! They’re a big deal–big dinners–and a fun gift exchange!
We celebrate with our families. We have a tradition of exchanging ornaments every year ![]()
I play the organ every Christmas for Midnight mass. My brother plays the violin. My fiancé isn’t religious so he is at his parents on Christmas Eve. After mass, we get home around 2am. That’s when we start opening presents! We usually call each other when we’re opening each other’s presents so we can hear our reactions. That’s how my fiancé proposed! He gave me a stuffed gorilla with a sign on its neck saying “Will U Marry Me” and in its paw was the ring! =D
My bf and I love spending the holidays outdoors. We love hearing christmas songs as we walk down the streets and seeing all the lights people put up on and around their houses. After work, we drive around to different neighborhoods and enjoy the scenery before we go home.
Christmas is a big time of year for us. We go start practically after Thanksgiving getting the house decorated and picking the perfect tree! Then we bake and cook together and take our goodies with us when we visit our family and friends. Especially when we go to my parent’s annual Christmas Eve party!
My fiance’s family goes skiing every year at Thanksgiving and last year we got engaged on a mountain on Thanksgiving day!
We have a tradition of cutting down our Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving. It’s always funny trying to get it home in our tiny car!
For the last two years we drove & flew all over the place to see both of our families - but this year will be our first christmas as a married couple (getting married in 2 weeks) - we’ll be taking some time for ourselves this christmas & taking our (delayed) honeymoon!
Driving all across Texas and spending time with family and shopping at Black Friday and after Christmas sales!
We have a tradition that we spend the holiday with each other decorating our Christmas tree with live red roses as part of his family’s tradition. The only problem is trying to find red roses during this time of year because we live so close to Pasadena and all the roses are tied up in preparation for the New Years Rose Parade!
I love to spend the holidays with my family, and church family! My husband enjoys the good natured teasing too!
Having a home-cooked meal with our families and close friends
We have to split our holidays between three sets of parents every year. We spend Thanksgiving with John’s mother up in Worcester, and Christmas with my mother and father here, and then we drive back up to MA to cape cod to his Father and Step-mothers for New Years. That has been out trend the past three years now to spend equal time with everyone.
Spending time with family and hopefully looking at our wedding proofs ![]()
Bopping back and forth between multiple families. It’s exhausting!
In previous years, FI and I have visited our families separately for the holidays, as they are located 750 miles apart. However, as we will be celebrating the holdays as a married couple this year, we have yet to decide which family to visit for which holiday. But I’m looking forward to sharing these great events with my new husband!!
My FI and I spend XMas eve with my family having a lite dinner and just visiting. When we get home we each open one special gift from each other. Christmas morning we spend alone laying in bed and relaxing. We get up around 10:00 a.m. and bring gifts to either his brothers house or his mom’s and we open gifts with all the neices and nephews. Then we go to the local Veterans Shelter and serve the Christmas meal. Christmas Day evening we have the rest of FI’s family to our house for deserts and pastries.
My fiance & I for the past 3 years spend our xmas holidays by starting off couple days early by going to snowboarding with our close friends~ On Xmas eve, we come home to moms house where we do traditional opening of presents under the tree!

We spend our holidays combining visiting family/friends and taking a vacation for just the 2 of us.
We spend the holidays with our families - conveniently they live 5 minutes apart.
We spend all the “weekend” holidays: Thanksgiving, Easter and 4th of July with his family, they are only an hour away. But we spend Christmas with my family, they live in a snowy area (we live in the desert), so we get a white Christmas!
Annual Christmas party at my in laws house complete with a Christmas Story viewing
I forgot the annual Christmas party–about 100 people a few days before X-mas at my parents’ house!
We like to go to his family’s home in AL. He proposed at a waterfall in his hometown at Christmas last year, so yeah…:)))
This Thanksgiving and Christmas will be our first as a married couple, so hopefully, we will snuggle down and get some alone time.
During the holidays we love to spend time usually with my family since his family is on the opposite of the country and I always try to make it special becuse he isn’t around his. We also spend some quality time in the kitchen getting items ready for the holiday parties. We also try to sneak in some relaxing time by having a bottle of wine and listening to some music and just enjoying on another’s company. I’m really looking forward to the holidays this year as we will be married.
He loves Christmas in NYC, so we usually hang around at Rockerfeller Center, Washington Square Park (where we got engaged), etc.
