Save It For Later*

August 2nd, 2007 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Pumpkin

About 3 months after Mr. Pumpkin proposed, I bought the Martha Stewart Wedding Planner.

Inside there are sections for each area of planning (ceremony, reception, flowers, etc…) and information on each of these areas. Since I had already purchased every issue of MS Weddings and InStyle Weddings from the previous 5 years, I did not find the information particularly helpful but there is a lot in there to help if you are just starting out. What I found most helpful were the pockets in each section for you to keep and organize ideas of your own. In the back there are also two Ziplock type plastic envelopes as well as a place to keep business cards organized. This is what my book looks like now:

I will eventually go through it and organize everything so that I can save it as a keepsake, and in that respect I am happy that I bought it. Looking back though I think I could have just used a good ole Trapper Keeper, which would have held more stuff, and not spent the extra money. Are you using a planning book? If so, which one and is it working for you?

On a side note, remember my post on chiavari chairs and how I couldn’t find a picture of the ceremony programs that I loved? While looking for a picture of the planner to post I found them here!

Aren’t they cute? I would have loved to have done something like that but they don’t work without the chiavari chairs! Damn you chiavari chairs! Why do you torture me so?!?

I had a notebook…scribbled a few things down…then bought a planner and never wrote a word in it. Everything I do is in GoogleDocs where I can share my lists and work with the groom. We can both look at it and make changes whenever we need to and it has made my wedding life SO much easier!

Hi Mrs. Pumpkin! Thanks for the note on our website!! I have a big 3″ notebook that I borrowed from the office (LOL) and used the “old school” school notebook dividers to keep everything organized.

My FI and family laugh at me, because everywhere I go - the big green notebook goes!

I use Martha Stewart’s as well — and now, at two months to go — mine looks EXACTLY like that. Except maybe worse. :)

I’m using the Target planner and I tell ya, a big Trapper Keeper would have worked fine too.

I LOVE those programs too, but can’t find paper like that to save my life! Frustrating!

oh nevermind, the pattern was added with a rubber stamp! it would still be nice to find paper like that! :-)

I have the same one and mine looks exactly like yours only the cover has become detached! The only thing organized in mine are the business cards in the plastic sleeves!

I also have the same one but I bought mine for 50% off at a discount store! It’s busting out at the seams but I’m really glad I got it -it helped me stay organized during the planning. Now that I’m married though, I’m not sure I’m going to keep it as a keepsake.

I got the planner that comes with the Knot-branded Amex card, and it too was bursting at the seems until I came up with a grand plan: every time I had chosen something For Sure (BM dresses, cake design, etc) or finished a DIY project, all related “ideas” were removed from the binder. It kept the binder under control, and stopped me from feeling too much regret about discarded ideas.

“bursting at the seams,” for those of you who twitched at the misspelling.

oh man, i was dying for some sort of binder but didn’t wanna shell out $30 for any “wedding” binder. so i just took a good ol 2″ school binder, some plastic sheet protectors and voila! instant wedding binder. i got some colored plastic protector sheets to give me my sections and it works pretty well. it really helps me keep organized. and it’s simple… and less than $10. half my ideas and resources are all online or digital, so it’s not bursting at the seams and being a wedding planner already, i didn’t need all of the advice or timeline info, so this worked well for me. most bees and bee-readers are pretty knowledgeable or resourceful gals, so don’t get suckered into purchasing something unnecessary.

i love that program! i totally wish i had something to use it for. and it’s even in my colors!

Yeah, I bought a clearance planner at Target and it was ok for a while, but in the end I just bought a 3″ binder at Staples and some good old-fashioned index dividers, some sheet protectors, and that’s all I needed. It even has a clear insert for the cover where I put my “storyboard” as decor. I love it.

i’ve got a regular old binder i already have laying around the house and bought dividers and page protector sleeves. i do have most of my stuff online but i occasionally go through and print them out and put them in the binder so everything’s in one place and it helps me to visualize things.

:) ditto. same planner. same current appearance. Makes me sad that the quality of the binder is not so great–Mine is also breaking. I did just buy a regular old binder to use the day-of with all my schedules, payment checks/envelopes, etc.
