Beehive

August 3rd, 2007 @ 4:05 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Lou saw a monogrammed satin table runner in a recent knottie bio of the week.  Does anyone know where those can be ordered?
  2. Jessica is looking for navy blue flower girl dresses.  Has anyone seen anything cute?  Everywhere she goes only has white.
  3. M. is travelling to Thailand in 2.5 months and is hoping to have a skirt+top, not typical wedding dress style made over there.  Can anyone recommend a good seamstress (preferably in Bangkok or Chiang Mai but she’s backpacking and can travel anywhere)?  Any advice on having clothes made there (costs, how long it’ll take)?  She’s a larger girl, will they laugh at her?
  4. M received 620 online proofs for her photog + 1 assistant for 9 hours of coverage.  This seems low and she had been expecting more.  Does the # of proofs seem about right to you?
  5. Miss. Kakerwhart is looking for a nice robe for her BMs as part of their gift.  Can you recommend something?

M that does seem low to me - for instance we had a 2 hour engagement session and received 380 proofs. Although perhaps your photog didn’t bother giving you the really bad photos, and has already done the dirty work of going through and editing out the unusable photos…?

Miss K have you tried Victoria’s Secret? I bet they would have some super plush robes

I have a question…
I have really fair comination skin and wanted to try one of those powder mineral foundations for the wedding.
Anybody here use that? Is it worth the cost/as great as the ads claim?

JESSICA — I got my FG dresses from One Small Child with a navy blue sash and skirt. They came in really fast and they look beautiful in person.

Miss K- I got my BM robes on sale from Victoria’s Secret (the Cloud line). They only had/have red and striped left but they are very soft and everyone loved them (i think so anyway :))

As a bridesmaid, instead of a robe, I would like those velcro towel body wraps with a ribbon sewn down the edge and my monogram on it. DIY? sold at monogram shops?

Lou–Williams Sonoma has a cotton/linen runner you can have monogrammed, it’s very nice quality.

Jessica–Pegeen.com–they can do pretty much any color you can think of. I had their dresses for my youngest jr bridesmaid and flowergirl–the jr bridesmaid in an navy dress with a buttercup sash, and my flowergirl in a buttercup dress with a navy sash. The dresses are gorgeous silk, extremely well made, and can be custom fitted, which is why I went to them in the first place. They arrive really quickly and Marj is great to work with. I recommend them highly.

Saradoo–I also have really fair skin, and the lightest Bare Escentuals shade works quite well for me. It’s good stuff.

Saradoo-
I have that exact same skin and it has been amazing. I went to Sephora and had them match my skin. I never use makeup and have been using it everyday because a) i wanted to be very used to wearing it, b)practice makes perfect and c) it’s supposed to help your skin tone, which i seriously doubted when i bought it, but no longer! because my skin is so sensitive it would get blotchy easily– but it looks so much more even now, even without makeup. i can’t BELIEVE it. I’m in love with it.
That being said, I have read some online revues from people who have said it irritated there skin, but not me. Hope that helps!

Miss Kakerwhart-
Crabtree & Evelyn has fantastic robes, and last year my FMIL gave me a robe from Bath and Body Works that is incredibly soft.

Question ladies - my dress finally came in yesterday, but since I ordered my dress from Netbride I can’t get my dress altered at Alfred Angelo. What’s the best way to find a good alterations place? Most of them don’t have Web sites or customer referrals, so should I just visit a few and see who I feel most comfortable with? With such an important garment, I don’t want to take the chance of getting a half-decent job!

M- I have been told you should expect about 100 proofs/hour (if taking digital). Most photogs will not post any duplicates or other unflattering/”bad” shots. It is also possible your photog didn’t want to post too many online b/c he has an online ordering system - he doesn’t want to overwhelm potential customers with so many pics. With that said, 680 does seem low. Maybe ask if there are additional proofs that just weren’t posted online?

Saradoo–BTW, the Bare Escentuals did make me break out, but *everything* makes me break out. I’ve never used a foundation that didn’t, I had hoped the mineral stuff wouldn’t, but it did. However, that’s just me, it doesn’t happen to most other people, I believe. So now I save it for special occasions.

Saradoo-Bare Minerals makes me feel a little itchy. I think it’s because it has Mica in it. (I noticed the same itchy feeling when I used my Stila eyeshadows that contained Mica as well).

Lou - I did a monogrammed runner and it was super easy. There are DIY runner directions all over the internet and then I went to a t-shirt shop (well, someone I knew who embroidered). I paid very little for the whole thing, including the 6 dollars for embroidery. :-)

One of my BM’s backed out and now I have a dress for sale. It is a dark golden chocolate color dress by Jasmine Belsoie in a size 24. It is a beautiful dress, and I’d love to sell it. The link to it is here: http://www.jasminebridal.com/html/en/web1_belsoie_3_a.asp?id=1095

My question is about the men’s shirts-the groom and his groomsmen. If my dress is ivory and champagne, should they still wear white shirts? Will this make my dress look dirty? I know other brides have had ivory dresses and I am wondering what they did and how it looked. Thanks!

Has anyone used or seen ceremony music being done by a DJ, instead of the traditional violinist, harpist, or other musician? Do you think it would be strange to do so?

skim - i’ve seen tons of ppl use a DJ for ceremony music and it works out great. don’t feel like you need to hire live musicians. i’ve had friends who have just burned processional/recessional music onto a cd and played it from that as well.

Question Weddingbee Ladies: I’m just not a floral arrangement kinda gal for centerpieces, but lack the diy imagination. I just bought vases similar to these to use for centerpieces:

http://www.myjeanm.com/engine.cfm?&PageID=1038&iCatID=41714

Anyone have any ideas on what to put in them that would tie into my summer southern belle wedding? I’d like to use a pillar candle in the middle for lighting as it is outside. Thank you ladies :-)
