Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

I Am A Copycat

August 3rd, 2007 @ 1:38 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I’m starting to think that everything in my wedding has been stolen off the pages of Weddingbee. The personalized ribbon, the wooden letters spelling out our name (not quite bought yet, but I want it!), and now… the ring orb. Thank you, Mrs. Bell Pepper, for showing me what I didn’t think I needed. And probably don’t, but eh, it’ll get more use as a coin holder than a ring pillow would!

Anyway, I saw the Scarlett Alley contest on Tuesday and entered. Assuming I wouldn’t win, I really didn’t care. I have my crappy Oriental Trading pillow ordered. Then, I came upon a post on the knot. Redshoegirl was trying to notify another knottie that she had received her orb. In her bio, redshoegirl also posted a picture in real life of how cute the box is and how beautiful the colors are.

So, realizing Impatience actually won the contest, (congrats!) I was smitten with the orb. Copper is one of our colors! And I need my something blue! Luckily, I have friends who can borrow it for their weddings, so it’ll get some use. I ordered the orb today, and called my mom to cancel the crappy pillow order. It didn’t match, anyway. whateva017 The orb will be shipping tomorrow, hopefully it’s fast!

I had heard the orbs were too much work to make, and were being discontinued, anyone know about this?  Anyway, I decided that it would be nice to lend this to a friend in Chicago who is getting married in September, thus resulting in her borrowed and blue!  And of course, my blue.  And new?  Why not share the wealth that is this kickass orb!

Thanks again, Weddingbee for sucking me into something else!

Here’s a tip to keep the holder in good shape for your bride-friends. The outside (being copper) will discolor from the oils on your fingers. Buy some metal polisher and give it a good rub right before you use it (and before you pass it on). It will shine back up.

I was too convinced that I needed this orb. I got it a few days ago, the “blue” actually looks more lavendar to me. Oh well, we’ll still use it.

hahaha! you always make me laugh!

we have a similar thing– a little ceramic box that opens to a beautiful blue color. It was a gift from my FMIL and I am really surprised at how much I love it… I had been kinda lost too, because pillows are just not my thing.

Wow - copper’s one of our colors too (and I hardly ever see anyone else using it)! Very nice.

I ordered mine a couple months ago, and had it stashed with my wedding stuff. FI found it, and it only took 10 mins to explain it to him ;) I love it with all my might!

Scarlet Alley was so great to work with, and I love the purple box too.

Thanks mrsmek! :)

I saw that before my wedding last year (redenvelope.com maybe?) and seriously considered getting one. Alas, I didn’t. I so wish I had. I forgot copper is one of your colors! I think it’s great you got something you love (not your ‘crappy’ pillow) and very nice of you to lend to your girlfriends for their weddings. So sweet!

I’m so excited to get mine! I’ve been bouncing ever since I found out I won. Seriously, every day I tell my fience “I won an *orb*!” And he thinks I’m crazy . . .

:) Enjoy yours!!

I’m so glad you found my post useful! It’s amazing how many knotties have asked me questions about the orbs - since they’ve been discontinued, they must be running out fast with all the knotties putting in orders, LOL! I really do love it - I take it out and look at it all the time. :-P
