About Mrs. Radish

I ended up going to 9 bridal shops in search of the right dress. I already blogged about my shopping trip in Syracuse and about my first two experiences in Chicago. My next trip was to the Nicole Miller shop on Wells Street in Chicago. I thought that Nicole Miller dresses would be really expensive since she is a big name designer, but all of the dresses I tried on were under $2,000. The sales associate I worked with, Logan, was fantastic; she was really helpful without being pushy and she even took all these pictures for me. :) Oh and by the way, in case you’re reading this Mr. Radish, I did not get any of these dresses.

This first dress was only about $1,200. It is made from a very cool metallic taffeta and it’s really, really comfortable and light. I love how unique the train is and I think this dress was very flattering on me. It’s really modern looking, though and maybe a little too sexy for the type of wedding we’re having… so I didn’t get it.

This next dress is made from the same metallic taffeta. Also very cool and modern… maybe not as flattering though? and no train.

This dress was really, really cute and it was exactly $2,000, which isn’t too bad in the world of wedding dress prices. The fabric is a gorgeous lily embroidered organza with a satin sash that can be tied about a million different ways. The one thing I didn’t like about it is that it didn’t have any kind of a train. I can’t explain why… but I want at least a small train. This dress made it into my top 5 dresses, but it didn’t make the final cut. But I would’ve been more than happy if this ended up being my dress. It’s really gorgeous and a pretty good price for the level quality.

Like I said, I didn’t get any of the above dresses, but if you are a bride-to-be who’s looking for something a little hipper that’s still in a reasonable price range, I highly recommend taking a look at Nicole Miller. She has some great dresses for less formal or destination weddings, too and some beautiful bridesmaids dresses.

Well folks, stay tuned for Adventures in Dress Shopping Part IV… coming soon. ;)

You look beautiful! I can’t wait to see the final choice. Btw, you are really lucky they were so nice and let you take pictures - the Nicole Miller in Soho in NYC when I went had a sales girl who was not very nice and would not let me take ANY pictures. =(

Great dresses. Not sure if you’re interested, but there’s a NM gown on nordstrom.com that has a similar look. GL!

Is that the necklace that you plan on wearing, or was it the store’s?

Jen — that was a Nicole Miller necklace they had at the store. It went very nicely with that dress, though. I think it was around $400… a little pricey.

I didn’t want a train at all when I was first shopping–in fact, I planned to chop off any train that happened to be on a dress that I loved. The gown I did buy happened to have a sweep train, and I loved it! Loved it so much I didn’t want to bustle it at the beginning of the reception, and nearly ended up killing myself when they suddenly started the hora. NB: don’t dance the hora with your train down! :D

I looove the first & third dresses! If those were in my price range, I’d head over there now! Even though I already have my dress… :P

The first dress is my sister dress from her March beach wedding. Love that dress! But we altered it a bit by adding peakabo lace in the front and adding some pick-ups on the sides with pearls from my grandmother.

Hi there,

The dresses you have posted above are the two that I’m considering for myself. BUT I’m stuck living in a tiny Swiss village trying to do the research all over the computer. Do you think you could help me out with a few specifics.

Are the metal tafetta dresses very shiny? Are they stiff? Those are my two major concerns. How formal do you feel they are. I’m doing a Vermont backyard wedding. I love how they look on the nicole miller website but they appear a bit different in home photographs.

Thanks for the help. IT IS SO APPRECIATED!
Please email me at lauren.reber@gmail.com

thanks,

I am in between two Nicole Miller gowns for my wedding. I went to her bridal boutique in New Jersey, and I would recommend anyone to go there if you want a no-attitude, delightful experience. I was a little nervous since Nicole Miller is such a well-known designer. Thought that my experience would come with an “uppity” consultation… but it was not so, at all! I am also contemplating that necklace you have in the picture, though I think it was more like $500–GASP. Almost as much as the dresses I want! ;)
