About Beehive

Beehive

August 6th, 2007 @ 4:28 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. kandaceandjason’s dress came in, but she ordered it from Netbride so she can’t get it altered at Alfred Angelo.  What’s the best way to find a good alterations place?  Most of them don’t have websites or customer referrals, so should she just visit a few and see who she feels most comfortable with?
  2. S’s dress is ivory and champagne.  Should the groom and his groomsmen still wear white shirts?  Will this make her dress look dirty?
  3. skim wants to know if anyone has used or seen ceremony music being done by a dj?  Do you think that’d be strange?
  4. AOEBuckeye is not a floral arrangement kinda gal for centerpieces, but lacks the diy imagination.  She just bought vases similar to these - any idea what to put in them that would tie into her summer southern belle wedding?  She’d like to use a pillar candle in the middle for lighting as it is outside.

Skim - our DJ is doing our ceremony music - he says he does it a lot. No worries!

AOEBuckeye - Summer southern bell? How about buckeyes/chestnuts, or cherries?

Our ceremony music was done by our DJ. It worked well for us. We had a Jewish ceremony so there wasn’t music during the ceremony other than what was sung by the rabbi. The procession was two pieces, one for me, one for everyone else, and then we recessed to U2’s “Beautiful Day,” which I don’t think would have been anywhere near as effective if it were played by live musicians. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than hiring musicians!

I am looking for simple gold party dresses for my flower girls: one for a 4 year old and one for a 7 year old. I would like them under $200 and easy to order online. Why can’t J Crew just make theirs in gold?! Anyway, any help would be so greatly appreciated!!!

K- Do you have a dry cleaner you use regularly? If so, ask them, they are a great resource.

Skim- We are having a dj do our ceremony music and sound as we are having an outdoor wedding.

S’s- this is very common question and has been asked on previous beehives. The answer is that he should wear a white shirt. The only part of his shirt that will be showing is cuffs, collar, and a little bit of the shirt…your dress on the other hand is huge compared to that so there is no way that a little bit of his white shirt will make your dress look “dirty.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bride in her dress and thought “pretty dress but it looks dirty.” If anything I think it would be the opposite…anything but a white shirt might look like HIS shirt is dirty. White shirts also photograph better.

Skim - I’m having a DJ do the music for our outdoor ceremony (I had debated about it, but I think it’ll work a lot better–and save us some $$) :-)

Almost Married!

I saw a shirt that someone made for her fiance. It was funny, but I can’t remember where I saw it on the website. There was a picture of him wearing it, too. Please help!

question for the hive…how would you address a mailing label to a married couple but you’re friends with the wife only? The norm is Mr. and Mrs. John Doe; but I’m only friends with the wife (not that I don’t like the husband, but she’s a work friend…)

Ashylynn–the Nadri line at Nordstrom has some great chandelier earrings that are what you’re looking for.

Skim–I went to a wedding last weekend and the DJ covered for the ceremony and reception. I had no idea it was the DJ until after the ceremony. Went off without a hitch, so I wouldn’t worry.

I shot a wedding that was outside and they used their DJ to do the ceremony music. It worked out well for them and didn’t seem weird at all.

S- I know this question has been covered, but I have a different opinion– I had an ivory/champange dress with latte accents, and all the groomsmen wore ivory vests and jackets (the BM blue/green was too hard to match) and DH wore an ivory dinner jacket and ivory shirt with a ‘wheat’ (aka sort of light latte) vest. We got so many compliments! It was nice for the groom to look ‘bridal’/'groomly’ (aka set apart since it’s his day, too). He was skeptical when I suggested it, but ended up loving it, esp. since it didn’t look like the guys were all interchangeable :) Long story short, since he wore ivory, the groomsmen did, too.

I’m looking for about 40 yards of fuchsia dupioni silk fabric for table runners. I’ve tried to order it twice from http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com and they keep canceling my order because they don’t have enough. Does anyone know where I can order it for less than $15 a yard??

S–White shirt. You can never go wrong with a white shirt, and it won’t make your dress look “dirty.” Professional photographers know how to shoot for this, for one thing, and in real life it will be fine. My dress was ivory, my husband wore a tan suit, yellow tie, and a snowy white shirt, and we looked great together. My dress just looked…ivory.

maverika–I keep posting this here–go with Pegeen.com! They did two gorgeous silk dresses for my girls, they came really quickly, and they even do custom sizing if you need it. They have several different styles, and they have silk in pretty much any color you can think of–they’ll even use your fabric if it’s suitable. They go from $125 and up, with most in the $150 range.

OT–if you’re inviting a married couple, you invite them the same way you’d invite anyone else, even if you don’t know the husband. As a feminist, I don’t like the “Mr and Mrs John Doe” thing, even if it is correct, so I addressed mine to Mr John and Mrs Mary Doe–if they have different last names, put her first.

Best place to sell gown without doing ebay? Are there any boards that are up to date?
