Surprising Product Review!

August 6th, 2007 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Back in the olden days when I was 95% sure that I was going to do my own makeup, I was on the prowl for a good airbrush foundation. The two that I had in mind were:

Surprising Product Review! : wedding makeup Mac Airbrush.jpg Surprising Product Review! : wedding makeup Z10328701 cd_airflash

The MAC Studio Mist Foundation is fairly reasonably priced (in my opinion) at $28.50, while the Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation retails for a hefty $60. But since I’ve recently booked myself a makeup artist for the wedding, I didn’t end up buying either of the products.

So the other day I made a quick run to Ulta for a Japonesque eyelash curler, and stopped in my tracks when I saw this product:

Surprising Product Review! : wedding makeup S103288 sallyhansen

Sally Hansen Airbrush Makeup for a mere $7.99! Now normally, I tend to walk right past drugstore foundations since I like to try on the products before purchasing. However, ever since I saw makeup artist Carmindy on TLC’s What Not to Wear use this, I have actually been keeping my eyes open for it whenever I go to Target or Walgreens. This was actually the first time I saw the product on the shelf.

Despite my nearly full bottle of Prescriptives Flawless foundation in my drawer, I had to buy it anyway. (I am such a product junkie, Sephora is my idea of Heaven on Earth). But WOW, I am so glad I took a chance! The consistency is nice and it really gives my skin the smooth airbrushed look. It’s a little bit strange in that you have to spray the foundation onto the back of your hand and then use a damp makeup wedge sponge or a foundation brush to smooth it on. But I believe this technique applies to both the MAC and Dior foundations as well.

Now for the downside…there are very few colors to choose from, maybe 4-5 shades at most. This makes finding your perfect match a hit or a miss. I happened to get lucky, the Nude Tan is perfect for my summer coloring. Also note, the shade on the cap is quite accurate and is a good color indicator. I may now be a permanent convert, and I think I will also bring this for my makeup artist to use! Happy Airbrushing!

What are your favorite drugstore finds?

ooh! interesting, though I find it weird that the spray is for dispensing, not applying. I mean, I can understand why you don’t spray it directly on your face, but then what’s the point of spraying at all for dispensing?

and what’s the deal with the “no colour” label on the container?

Miss M,
You may be right, I have seen her use multiple brands, but at one point, this was definitely one of them. Thats what piqued my interest! =)

I thik CVS and Rite Aid drugstores (and maybe others?) have a no-quibble return policy on cosmetics. So try away!
