DIY Publisher Invite

August 7th, 2007 @ 1:17 pm by Mrs. Radish

We already had our invitations made by the time that we decided to have an after party. But I still wanted to include some information about the party, so I decided I would DIY them. However, like Miss Petunia, I am a Photoshop/Illustrator dummy. So I turned to Microsoft Publisher and designed the little invitation below. I just used a blank Publisher template and I used free vintage clipart images that I gleaned from a few different websites. I didn’t want to spend any money on them so they are just printed in black & white on a regular Xerox machine, but they do the trick.

Well, what do you think? I was impressed with myself, to be honest, since I’m no graphic designer… that’s for sure.

Is anyone else trying to design any of their own stationery in Publisher or Photoshop? Which program are you using and did you have any experience with it beforehand?

Oh, and just in case anyone is looking for some fee clipart sites, here are some that I used:

Karen’s Whimsy
Antique Clipart
US Fish & Wildlife Service
New York Public Library Digital Images Gallery

oh this is soo cute!

i’m ghetto… i’ve used ms word religiously for the past 2 years or designing all kinds of invitations. i guess i got pretty savvy at it. but the main trick is using text boxes, so that you can move text/pictures around easily. i do use photoshop to “trick out” my pictures. but for the layout and publishing, yea, i use word. hey, whatever works, right?

Lovely! I used Publisher too for my DIY stationery. Illustrator with its layer technique was just soo difficult.

Beautiful and creative! I think DIY is all the better when you tackle a new skill to achieve it. Which clip art link has those awesome birds over the tree? I love it. Thanks for sharing!

very nice! I also went the cheapo print myself in black and white route and I thought mine looked great. And I got a lot of mileage out of my package of coverstock: invitations, program covers and place cards, too!

I absolutely love this! We are doing an afterparty at our hotel in a conference facility. I’d love to have these under the doors! Any chance you might share a template?

Turned out so cute. I might have even put “After Party” on its own line to emphasize the pun.

For a marriage of lawyers, the after party could be called the “Party of the Second Part.”
