Living A Clutter-Free Life…

August 8th, 2007 @ 6:12 pm by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I have been trying to clear up all the wedding related clutter in our place since the beginning of this week. There’s still so much stuff and it’s time to clear out anything we don’t need anymore. There are some details that hold sentimental value, so I decided to design a shadowbox with everything stuffed inside. I added one of the menu cards, some stickers from our candy buffet, an antique brooch with a purple ribbon, one of our floral escort cards, and our invitation.

Here’s a lovely photo of the shadowbox complete with the ripped up shrink wrap.

For the base of the shadowbox, I used lavender japanese tissue paper and a pretty lacy tissue paper as the second layer. I decided to be a little creative by shaping the lace paper into a bridal gown.

I added the brooch and sash to the lace paper gown and glued the rest of the details. The flower was kind of hard to arrange so I stuck it behind the invite to give it a little support.

I hear a lot about brides preserving bouquets, but I had no idea where to start and my flowers were already falling apart before I could consider preserving. So what do you plan to keep after your wedding - a garter, jewelry, ceremony/reception details?

Creative and lovely shadow box! The dress with sash and brooch is super clever.

I hope to keep my paper goods, ribbons from my and my sister’s bouquets, FH’s bout, my hairpiece (which is currently TBD). Perhaps I’ll do a shadow box or keepsake box. Scrapbooking however is beyond my attention span…

That’s gorgeous! I need to do that too, our apartment is still filled with wedding clutter. Where did you get the shadowbox to start?

I bought several from Michael’s when they were 50% off. It’s not too expensive, about $4-7 each.

Since I’m Catholic, I’ll be having the roses from my bouquet preserved as rosary beads. I’ll probably put them in a shadowbox as well.

For the people doing/have done shadowboxes…were do you put them? I have one, and it looks a little funny sitting on the wall by itself (maybe because its too small?), but it also looks weird grouped with other pictures because of the depth difference.

Right now I have it on a bookcase, but was wondering what other people do.

you know, i wasn’t going to do a shadow box, but now i’m seriously considering it!

my bouquet is going to be 100 light, air-dry clay stephanotis flowers (with little pearl centers) - they’re about 1 1/4 inch in diameter. Here’s a pic: http://tinyurl.com/2qqqca. At Christmas I’m going to pull them out of the bouquet and sprinkle them all over our tree. My mom does the same thing with baby’s breath - so it’s like I’m putting my stamp on the tradition! Maybe I’ll put my little sample flower a shadow box…

Hi Mrs. BP. This is regarding your filippa scott shoes on ebay. Do you normally wear a 8 1/2 or did the shoes run small? I’m an 8 but hoping to fit the 8.5.

I saw this post earlier today and headed right to the store to buy a frame. I just finished making my own, it is hung and everything. Thanks for the inspiration!
