Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Neither Hair Nor There

August 8th, 2007 @ 1:25 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Usually I love to have things scheduled waaay ahead of time. It just makes sense, right? This is what’s killing me about the wedding day. I haven’t spoken to the organist, I haven’t figured out what time the hair lady is doing my hair (nor am I finding out WHERE she’s doing my hair) which means I can’t schedule the makeup yet, either!

For those of you who are having makeup and hair done for you, how are you figuring the schedules? Am I the only one who has to go get my hair done, go back to the hotel, and then back to the church?

here is how i am figuring schedules: flying by the seat of my pants. I canned my original hair stylist and am now having a late trial with another. This second one is leaving for a vacation the day of my wedding, and so will be doing our hair EARLY in the morning. good for schedule, bad for wanting to lounge around!

I’m with you… Since I was trying to keep costs down we have to go to the salon. They are willing to open up early for us since the wedding is at noon but then that leaves us with the situation that we only have soo much time to get our makeup done. :| Now do I change salons to one closer to the hotel? Uggh… just when I thought I figured it all out!

i have the same problem. we decided to stay at the hotel the night before with my bm, but that’s 40 mins away from the church, but 5 mins from the reception. it’s cuz we didn’t want to have to check out that morning (it’ll be hectic enough). we’re going to have to have a hair and make up person come to us at the hotel, then get ready, then go to the church.

i still haven’t had my trial…i’m hoping for my first this weekend. wedding is in oct.

I’m curious did you married gals get your hair done first or your makeup done first and what order would you recommend?

Find out if your hair stylist will come to the hotel to do your (and bridesmaids?) hair. That would make things so much easier on you if it’s not too expensive!

I booked a lady to do both our hair and makeup. She is coming to the hotel where bms and I will be staying. Then we will head to the chapel (can’t get in until 4pm) get dressed there and do makeup “touch ups” (so we don’t have to pay our photographer to come to the hotel but can still get the pictures we want) and then go straight into formal pictures.

When planning a day of schedule, it’s always best to work backwards and schedule in 15 minute “buffers” in case of someone running late or a minor snafu!

I had my hair done first (at the salon) and then one of my bridesmaids did my makeup shortly before the ceremony. My feeling was that hair was more likely to keep longer, plus I didn’t want hairspray and a hairdryer blowing at my fancy makeup, you know?

That said, I planned to be done with my hair about 2.5 hours before the ceremony and then went back to the house, had makeup done, got dressed, and tended to a million little last minute details just in time for the ceremony (but not particularly rushed) so I think the 2.5 hour window was pretty good.

i’m getting my hair done in the salon at 9 a.m, then i have to drive across town to the mall, where i’m getting my makeup done at 11 a.m., then i have to drive *back across town* to the church to get dressed for my 2:30 ceremony.

it’s tiring for me to type, let alone the day of, but i feel really lucky to even have this schedule–originally, i wasn’t going to be able to start my hair until 10 a.m. (the stylists there that day were cranky, mine luckily was way nice on the day of my trial), and when i went to make my makeup appointment with the woman who had done my trial, i found out she no longer worked there!! the lady working there now had my info on a card, but she said she wouldn’t be coming in that day until 1:30 (not going to work if i actually wanted my wedding to start on time!) i sort of freaked out a bit on that one, considered buying the makeup & doing it myself, realized i didn’t want to spend that much for one-day makeup since i hardly wear any day-to-day. luckily, my fsil used to work at the mall, and called in a favor, and voila, suddenly the woman at the makeup counter can come in at 11 a.m.! wahoo! it all works out in the end, i swear it.

my vendors kind of did my schedules for me. makeup and hair are coming to my hotel room at 7am and they are going to be doing my mom and sister first. photog & video coming at 8. leaving no later than 9:30 and ceremony starts at 10. i am NEVER late for anything but people keep reminding me that everyone’s waiting on me and i can be a little late so that way they are all there in time and i’m not stressed about the ones that tend to be late wherever they go.

I was told to have makeup done last, so it would be fresh for pictures, so I would start with that and work backwards. I just told vendors when I needed to be done with their service, and they worked out the start times.
