About Mrs. Petunia

Here’s one reason to order extra envelopes: My printer seemed to fall in love with at least 10 of them (I had to print out 67 in total) and almost refused to hand back to me their mangled little bodies. After a few, I felt like a new mother staring at a baby when asleep to make sure it is still breathing — I carefully watched each print job, fingers crossed, and clapped in delight as each survived its little birth.

The good news is that the Save the Date cards reached their destinations safely, and we even received compliments on them, which is always a good thing. I think some people liked their envelopes more than the cards themselves and I don’t mind one bit! After all, I only ordered the invitations, but I printed all the envelopes myself. It’s not calligraphy but…um, yeah, it will have to do.

Truth be told, there isn’t anything terribly amazing about the envelopes: point is that calligraphy is, of course, a lovely detail, but we figured to save on some costs, we could use our little home printer and still have our addressing look formal and pretty.

To match the font featured on our STD, we used Edwardian Script font for the names and zip code. For the addresses, we used Andalus font, with extra spacing between each letter. The zip code numbers are also spaced out with one tab between each one (about 5 spaces). I don’t know why, but I like the extra spacing.

Here’s a close-up of our addressing:

Microsoft Word also gave us the option of selecting an A2 envelope as the paper size, so we didn’t even have to play around with any margins. Just set the whole thing to be centered and off we were!

We ordered our STD’s from Wedding Paper Divas, who I have to say, were just delightful to work with. Not too expensive, and you get e-mailed proofs at no extra cost! Green was not one of the original colors to choose from for this layout, but for only an extra $15 they were able to change it to the color of my choice. They were also offering free shipping, and best of all, their turnaround time was amazing — I ordered them online in the morning and by that afternoon I had a proof in my inbox. Woot!

i don’t think word allows it, but programs like indesign allow you to play with the kerning of your text, providing spacing between characters, to help you achieve that perfect spacing you desire!

Lovely Save the Date!

And I hear you on the envelopes - I printed the return address on my Save the Date envelopes, and I anxiously awaited each successful printing. It seemed that I could only do three or four at a time, at which point the printer would just get too warm and decide that it wanted to take a little break in the middle of printing. I figure I blew through about 30-35 ruined envelopes, easily!

Love them! Did you have to purchase those fonts? I can’t find them in my MS Word. How did you do your return address?

I addressed mine the exact same way. Except I used Copperplate Gothic Light for the address font! I love the way they came out!

My printer is tricky with the envelopes as well, so I do 3-4 at a time and then wait…. getting about 25 done each day - which reminds me - I need to finish them!!! :)

Love them! I got my STDs from Wedding Paper Divas too! And my notecards…and my shower invites! I got spoiled by their customer service, which made it harder when all the other vendors I chose didn’t live up to Wedding Paper Divas customer service! I love the green you chose, so pretty!

I never thought that a possible reason for the mangled-ness was printer heat: good point! I’ll have to remember that when I print out invite envelopes…

Aoedorothee: I’ve set my tabs to 5 spaces and after I’d enter each number, I’d press tab, etc. Oh, and the whole thing is centered. =)

wsukarebear: I didn’t do the flourish myself. The design is a pre-set one from Wedding Paper Divas. You can see it at http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/products/ProductView_498.htm in the original colors they offer, but again, they can make color changes for a $15 fee.

Tracy: we did return addressing with an embosser, but I believe for a small fee, you can get the return address pre-printed. As to the fonts…I’ve had them for some time, so I can’t seem to remember where I got them from, sorry =(

I can’t imagine I paid for them though!

Miss Petunia,
First, your STDs are adorable.
Second, what color green did you use? I want green on my STDs from Wedding Paper Divas but I can’t decide between the couple greens they offer.
Thirds, where did you get the embosser? I love that idea for return addresses!
Thanks so much,
Hilary
