Scent of a Woman

August 8th, 2007 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Corn

So I have often noticed how true it is that smell is one of our most powerful memory simulators. I have heard of people purchasing a scent specifically for their wedding day in hopes that the husband will be reminded of the special occasion whenever the wife wears the scent, but I just didn’t think that was something I wanted to add to the list of wedding expenses.

Enter the most delicious, sexy, feminine, intoxicating scent I have ever experienced:

Scent of a Woman : wedding beauty newport Hanaem

Hanae Mori

The fragrance is a rare blend of berries and flowers, with a distinctive tone of strawberries and almond, giving an impression of vanilla. The bottle’s top is distinctly made from glass, a first for any fragrance. The top represents the beauty and delicate shape of a butterfly with folded wings.Notes:Strawberries, Bilberries, Black Currant, Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Almond, Praline. Style:Spontaneous. Modern. Festive.

And special thanks to the lady at the Macy’s counter who not only got my attention, but was able to pinpoint exactly what I thought I wasn’t looking for.

Who cares if Mr. Corn doesn’t ever notice or remember the fragrance; I will!!

I love the idea of a wedding day scent…but unfortunately my fiance has fairly severe allergies, and perfume is usually out of the question.

But, I’m hopeful that I can find some lovely body spray of some kind! (I know, it’s a poor substitute…)

I’m a big fan of Ralph Lauren Blue (”Casually elegant, a cool, fresh, floral fragrance with notes of Lotus Flower, Peony and Musk”) for everyday/everyday I remember to put spritz some on (which is almost never), and I also LOVE Gucci Envy Me (”…dazzling blend of sensual peony, jasmine, and pink pepper is melded with notes of sweet litchi and effervescent pomegranate and pineapple, and smoothed with soothing musk, white tea, and warm woods…”), but don’t own because I don’t wear perfume so much…. though now, maybe it can be a wedding day expense!

you could always try pheromones. They smell different on everyone. Kinda like enhancing your own natural scent.

Since neither my FH or I generally like perfumes or colognes, I’d given up on a wedding day “scent.” Then, during an evening in March when the gray Seattle skies were making us depressed and wondering if summer was ever coming back, I realized we already have our signature scent — it’s the incense we smelled at all the temples and shrines we visited during our 25 day trip to Japan.

So, I’m wrapping up a few sticks in a box with some sand and matches, and asking one of my neices to take it to the grooms’ room while they’re getting ready - with a too-sappy note about having our signature scent on our wedding day — yeah, we’re that romantic :)

Love Hanae Mori. I actually thought it was a really great idea to have a wedding scent, and I’m going to do Vera Wang “original scent.” Can’t wait to start a new scent!

I’ll have to go try that one. I did want a wedding day scent–I always remember my sister’s wedding when I smell the Diorissimo we both wore that day. I wear Calyx nearly every day, sometimes single note florals, and sometimes, even rarer, I wear Red Door or Red Door Revealed. But I wanted a new scent just for that day–I don’t even smell Calyx anymore! But…I hate most perfumes, they all smell the same to me, or smell weird. Or just didn’t smell “special” enough for my wedding. Finally I found one I loved, the old school perfume Fracas. I tried it on at local stores a few times, wore it all day to get the full bouquet, and really liked it. Then I asked Mr Pencils what he thought of it, letting him smell my wrist. He made a face.

I wore Calyx on my wedding day. My husband loves it, and to him, it smells like me. So that’s the important thing, right?

i usually love givenchy perfumes. so, i was giddy with joy when i saw they had a perfume named mariage (in their amarige line). so apt, don’t you think? and it also smells great, not overpowering at all. :) and my hubby remembers that he first smelled it on our wedding day. :D

I LOVE Hanae Mori, that has been my everyday scent for about 5 years now. I did wear Marc Jacobs specifically for the wedding day because I love the Gardenia scent.

The great thing about that is when I wore the Marc Jacobs on certain nights we went out on our HM, it reminded us of our wedding day. He loves the scent and says “it smells like 7.14.07″!
