Mrs. Gummi Bear's Picture
Mrs. Gummi Bear, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Japanese Importer/Illustrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Game Developer/Programmer Engagement Date: April 15, 2006 Wedding Date: October 13, 2007 Blogging Since: June 19, 2007 Venue: Organic farm an hour from San Francisco About Me: I live for anthropologie, design blogs, sweets, japanese zakka, and vintage goods. We just bought our first home together and live with our two puppies and cat - it's a strange mixture of vintage, high-tech (we have 7 computers and 21 video game systems in all), and a whole lot of fur. Our wedding tries to embody the Japanese idea of "slow life", which is truly taking the time to enjoy food, company, and your environment!
About Mrs. Gummi Bear

Yesterday, we got a good 5-6 packages. I love packages, it’s like Christmas, only Santa is usually wearing a brown shirt and shorts. Sometimes he comes wearing a blue suit, and is surlier these days thanks to our normal mail carrier being MIA. How I miss her…Of the several 30lbs boxes, of which weak Mr. GB could barely carry, we received one from Paper Monkey Press! Our invites!! They even sent us free ‘Thank You’ cards!

As we all know I’m insane, so I forced Mr. GB into yet another adventure in DIY madness. It turned out that in order to cut our tags the way we wanted, they would be delayed and we’d still have to punch the eyelets ourselves. I figured we’d save time and money and do the cutting and punching ourselves. We became a two man work line, with me cutting and marking, and him punching and inserting eyelets. We grabbed the old Ikea table from the garage as a workspace and got to work.

I’m very exact, so I measured frequently to make sure I was cutting and marking the eyelet holes properly. They look white, but they’re just flipped over. I refused to fall behind, so I worked until my right arm muscles were twitching with pain. That and we wanted to make the 7:20 showing of a movie in downtown SF and needed to bust ass.

Our cheap garage Ikea table is permanently scarred with the marks of hammered eyelets. But look how cute they are!! (they’re in the right hand corner)

All in all, it took us about 2 hours to finish 95 tags. Mr. GB was ready to keep going, excitedly swinging his minuscule hammer around like a child.

I’ll have more photos later, when we get them back from the calligrapher. That and my muscles need to stop twitching, the wedding is causing severe nerve damage…. and probably invisible mental scarring as well. It’s all fine though, Mr. GB is already resigned to the fact that eventually I will cut and perm my hair, lose my ability to speak English and babble nonsensically. This is what he envisions happens to all Korean women at a certain age.

He’s a sweetheart.

I absolutely love your stationery! Would you mind if I got in touch with you regarding the pricing for Good on Paper’s design work? I’ve been admiring her work for so long and want to see if she’ll fit into my budget!

I feel bad the table was ruined before I could recommend a Cropodile to you (though it seems you weren’t too attached to your table!)… It works so fast with eyelets, you would never have had to worry about making that movie. You can get a Cropodile for about $30 (also punches holes of a few sizes) in your craft store. No banging- it’s completely quiet and it looks like an oversized hole punch.

Oh and I am in no way offiliated to the Cropodile people- I just really like the product and it has helped me in my own wedding crafts!

yah i recommend the cropodile too. Michaels around here always haves 40% coupons in the sunday ads. you can punch a bunch of tags at once and it’s QUIET! that’s what i love about it. I think the back of it reads, “no more grunting…& cussing”.

Oh I wish we had a cropodile! We’re now using the table as a drying rack for our painted hooks. :)

the tags are for our invitations, hopefully they’ll return soon and we can take more photos!
