About Mrs. Hibiscus

So far, I’ve already blogged about our photobooth and our slideshow. Another special aspect of our wedding (and Mr. Hibiscus’ favorite) was our first dance.

146

Now, we worked really hard to come up with a routine after a couple of lessons from Arthur Murray. I think we did a good job considering we had no previous training. It wasn’t “Dancing with the stars” by any means, but we were very proud. We recommend taking dance lessons to help relax you for your first dance. Shockingly, my hubby wants to continue our lessons. He loved it and it was his favorite part of the wedding because he had put so much work into it.

But, our choreography actually wasn’t the only thing that made our first dance so special to us. We actually were interviewed by our DJ before the wedding, and then he took clips of that and incorporated them into the song. It was very touching for me because my husband had made me bawl during the interview because of all the sweet things he had to say. We didn’t rehearse anything but he said it was easy because everything was from the heart. (Awwww) Obviously, our DJ couldn’t incorporate the entire interview into the song, but we did get the full interview on CD after the wedding. At any rate, our song had everyone in tears and people said it was truly romantic. We were so excited to surprise everyone with it. Warning: Do not play the song if you’re allergic to cheesy. :)

To answer your questions:
Jessi-The flowers in my hair are Dendrobium orchids and my florist just reinforced the stems with wires.

Iris-I can’t believe you don’t know this song!!! lol jk It’s Howie Day’s Collide.

Jen-I’m so sorry but I have no idea how he did it. lol We just sat there with mics for the interview and he recorded us and then did his thing. It took him a while to finish though because he had to sort through the interview. Sorry I don’t have more info for you.

your wedding was beautiful. :) i don’t want to seem like a sour-sport, but I just wanted to let everyone know that arthur murray dance studios has been sued a bunch of times for its sales techniques and cancellation policies, so beware! http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,825546,00.html?iid=chix-sphere
they are also currently being investigated in a class action lawsuit: http://www.classactionconnect.com/?q=node/648

Miss Onion says:

How awesome is that! I freakin’ love it. And I got all teary and I don’t even know you guys. We weren’t planning on a first dance (the wedding is just under 4 weeks from now) as we inviting 70 people which maxed out our space. But now that only 50 people have RSVP’d yes we’ll have a little room. BUT — we can’t dance. Should we go for it anyway? Take lessons (what did that cost at Arthur Murray — would you recommend them)? We’d dance to Louie Armstrong’s “Kiss to build a dream on” which is only 3 minutes. Thanks in advance for your help!

Gosh, now it’s gonna bother me not remembering! LOL. But, this was very touching. What a wonderful DJ.
