I Really Am The Best Fiance Ever

August 10th, 2007 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Corn

Just picked up my gift for Mr. Corn.

xmcar1.jpg

Mr. Corn travels every week for work, and he has been interested in a portable satellite radio for a while. He has held back on his decision because XM satellite has hockey and baseball, but Sirius has football and Howard Stern.

Well, I have made the decision for him.

That sounds a bit pushier than it is. In reality, I have done lots of research and polled Mr. Corn various times and came up with the logical choice of XM radio. In all likelihood, XM and Sirius will eventually merge (hopefully sooner than later) and they would be stupid to alienate 1/2 of the subscribers by not making all the shows compatible, so it became a decision of which receiver was better quality and more convenient for traveling. I also picked up the car kit so he can use it in his rental cars, too.

I can’t wait to give this to him on our wedding day.

Are you getting anything for your hubby to be? If so, what are you getting?

After giving this much thought, I decided that I want to get my fiance a really nice dress watch. Has several “casual” watches but nothing really nice to wear when he’s all gussied up. I plan on having it engraved as well.

Alright Miss Corn, that’s it: the Corns and the Petunias might have just been separated at birth!

Mr. Petunia LOVES this XM radio I got him about a year ago. You did goooood! Mr. Corn is going to swoon!

I’m doing a photography session with Tony Yang, like Miss Onion did…but I’ll also have to get him something else, like cuff links so I won’t have to tell everyone about the pictures that are only for his eyes… ;)

I bought this exact gift for my fiance last Christmas — he LOVES it! I have no idea what I’ll get him for the wedding, however.

I got all of the emails and letters we wrote during the beginning of our relationship (we were doing international long distance) bound into a leather, hardcover book.
we then read them out loud to each other on the first half of our honeymoon. super romantic and he loved it.

My husband has the same one, i got it for him for his birthday when it first came out. We are both loyal XM Fans, with 3 radios total in our name. Forget stern! We love Ron and Fez!

I was thinking i-phone, but husband hinted he wanted something he’d have forever (i.e., not technology that would later be obsolete), so went with the classic watch.

I painted him a picture of his bulldog that passed away…not totally done yet!

I got my husband a camera. We didn’t give each other wedding presents so this was more of an engagement present and he helped pick it out. It was something he really wanted and I figured we’d both benefit from it. He loves it.

What a great idea!

I gave my gift for FH a lot of thought. I didn’t want anything that could break, wear out, go out of style, or that a million other brides had given a million other grooms . . . So, I’ve commissioned a painting for FH from an artist we both adore.

To do this, I wrote her a long letter describing why this man is the person for me (she’s also a friend, who’d seen me through a terrible breakup about a year before I met Grant). I included two books that are meaningful to us, and two CD’s with music that represents him, me and our relationship - it gave her a lot of inspiration to work with, and I’m really excited to see the finished piece.

The idea of giving Grant something that mirrors some of his most endearing qualities just really appealed to me. And, the fact that it’s truly one-of-a-kind, filled with subtle symbolism, and also a good investment (as her work is already appreciating in value), will, I hope, make it a worthwhile investment, and a gift he’ll cherish (and a gift we can, one day, possibly pass down to a child).

In case you can’t tell, I’m really, really looking forward to giving it to him between the ceremony and our entrance at the reception. :) I’ve even arranged for our wedding planner to have an easel prepared to display it during the reception. :)

His favorite mathematician* is on a new stamp from Switzerland in honor of his 300th birthday, so I got him a first day cover of it. While looking for it on eBay (not realizing I could just buy it from post.ch), I found the first day cover of the 250th birthday stamp, too.

*yeah, you gamers keep calling yourselves nerds, and I am here to tell you you don’t know from nerd.

I started a blog about our relationship and I regularly add to it. I am getting it all printed out and bound (complete with all of the original posted pictures) with blurb.com and I’m adding a special letter to him at the very end. He’s not much of a “things” kind of guy but he’s very sentimental so I know this will really mean a lot to him.

A puppy. I promised him we would get one after the wedding.
I”m going to pick it out before hand and get the dog after the honeymoon.
