Independence Day Wedding

August 10th, 2007 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Bell Pepper

While everyone was setting off fireworks all over the country, Philly Knottie Astravery got married on Independence Day in Philadelphia. Check out her bio, she had a very elaborate wedding at the Ritz-Carlton and had a lot of unique details incorporated in her wedding.

I LOVE her dress. If I didn’t already have mine, I’d be all over it.

Hey! I rode the bus to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris with the mother of the groom. I remember her saying she was on her way to her son’s wedding in Philadelphia. She said people called them ‘The Rocker and the Doctor’ because she’s a doctor and he plays in a rock band! What a beautiful wedding, too!

For those of you who may have questions I may have some answers - first off the certificate is a quaker wedding certificate. You probably don’t see an officiant because it was probably a Quaker wedding. Being in Philly it totally makes sense to have all the declaration of independence/Ben Franklin stuff - BUT, William Penn (founder of the city) was also Quaker - so, for Quakers there is a lot of symbolism going on here…The picture of city hall (looking out the window with the champagne at the bottom right) - the statue is William Penn. Anyway - for those of you who think Quaker are Amish they are not - electricity is totally cool - consider looking up some traditions for your wedding. I would probably term this Quaker-light…since it isn’t entirely “simple” but still beautiful!

Hi! I’m the bride. Christine, your story is too freaky! What a small world!

t - We had a wedding somewhat in the manner of Friends. I consider myself Quaker (I’ve attended meeting for years but I’m not a member yet). My husband is not. Ben Franklin was rather anti-Quaker, but he is our favorite Founding Father. Many modern Quaker weddings do include non-traditional elements such as a processional with music, ring exchange, kiss. But we did do a full 20-30 minute silence before the vows, signing the wedding certificate, reading it, and more silence with messages afterward. Some of our guests were very uncomfortable with the Silence. Other said that it was the most moving, spiritual experience of their lives. Most had never experienced prolonged, collective silence before.

Astravery - I came across your bio earlier in the year and it is great to see the pics from your beautiful wedding. Would you please tell me about the white on white cake in your bio that shows your formal china pattern. What pattern is it? Thank you!
