On Site Photo Printing

August 10th, 2007 @ 2:29 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

One of the exciting features we added to our photography was on-site printing. Basically, we’ll set up a photo station for when the guests arrive. They’ll each get photos (as families, couples, groups or solo) and at the end of the night, the photos will be printed up and ready to go as a nice keepsake of the event.Mr. Peppermint and I were thinking of buying some fun fabrics to use as possible backgrounds and hanging them on a string. We thought we might also buy some props (fun hats, goofy things–any suggestions?).

These photos from Lena Corwin’s Flickr have inspired me:

One possible question, we’re not sure what type of guest book we want to do and one contender is a Polaroid guest book. The reason we want to do one is because we have a few Polaroid cameras we use at all our parties, so it’s kind of a tradition. But if we have both Polaroid guest book and the on-site printing, is that overkill? And would people use the photo station for both?? What are your thoughts?

What a great idea! To add the polaroid guestbook *might* be overkill . . . it’s hard to say.

We’re having a digital guestbook - our coordinator will take digital pictures of our guests during the cocktail hour, print and affix them to pages during dinner, then everyone will sign their pages during the evening (with gentle reminders from us and our 12 and 15 year old guest attendants, if they forget ;).

After the wedding, we’ll have the digital images and over 100 picture frames we’ll have used (but not damaged) for table decor - voila, instant thank you gifts to send to our guests after the wedding . . . just about Christmas-time :)

I think I would just do one or the other. Both sound like great ideas. I might to the Polaroid guestbook myself.

Definitely just go with the on-site printing only. With that and a photographer, your guests might get photo-fatigue. Also, it might get a tad bit confusing after a while. At a wedding I attended, where I was on photo duty, a guest commented “No More Pictures!!!I’ve had enough” (though she was a pretty unpleasant person overall).

I agree both will be overkill.

It might be too much work, but you could just have your photographers make extra copies of one picture from each group. Then do notecards/envelopes for the guest book. After the wedding, put together a scrapbook matching the notecards to the photos on each page.

I like the idea of the photo guestbook more than the on-site printing. To me, it’s straying too far from a wedding, and getting more into an event where you are providing entertainment (enter the dancing bears!)

Since the Polaroids are more relatable to you, why not stick with that? You could always set up a laptop and photo printer for those who just can’t possibly wait until they get home. Don’t forget, your guests will also have their own cameras, and will be able to create their own silliness at the tables, through the buffet, on the dance floor, etc. So between their cameras, your photographer’s cameras and the Polaroid guestbook, I think you are more than covered :)

We’re doing this, too! Our photographers will set-up the “booth” as part of our package and we’ve got fabric all picked out… We won’t have on-site printing, though. We’re going to send each guest a “thank you” card after the wedding with their picture in it. (I sure hope everyone takes one!) One thing we’re planning on doing is putting a blurb at the end of the program that says something like,

“Say Cheese! We want to commemorate you dressed in your finest! Please be sure to head to the cocktail tent to take a picture in our “photo booth”!”

I chitter chatter, chitter chatter about smack-a smack-a smack-a. I can’t give it away on 7th Avenue. This town’s wearing tatters. Splattered. All over Manhattan. Do you see my crotch?

I am looking to do the on-site printing as well but I am having a hard time trying to find a photographer who does it. Which one did you use?

MamaRansom - Our photographer (Michael Graham) did on-site printing in addition to our wedding photography package. I recently went to an event in LA that had a great photo booth/onsite photography by Oh Snap Studios. Good luck!
