So Many Dresses…

August 10th, 2007 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Petunia

…so many opinions.

I must admit that, knowing myself, my first mistake was taking other people (my MOH and BM) shopping with me when I first went looking for dresses. I was easily swayed by their opinions, and this, in part, led to my purchasing a dress I was not in love with.

Once I knew I did not like my dress, it was easy to be distracted by other dresses when I went out to shop for a veil. I mean, they were calling to me, those pretty bubbled mermaid bottoms and sparkly crystals. In one store, I thought I had fallen in love with this dress:

So Many Dresses... : wedding ft. lauderdale wedding dress Victoriadress.jpg

(Never you mind my awful facial expression; it’s indicative of how upset I was with the process, not the dress!)

My second mistake was that I started talking to people about the dress situation: my MOH, my “man of honor,” my sister-in-law, etc.

My MOH was less than sympathetic: “a waste of money” was her response.

My other friends, knowing how indecisive I could be, just said I would be going back and forth forever. Worse, they didn’t like this new dress one bit. Never mind that I did.

Quickly, the dress I had fallen for this time was ruined for me. Nobody liked it — how could I?

I finally decided that it was my wedding and waste of money or not, I had to feel special in my wedding gown. Yes, it was only for one day, but there will be $3000 worth of pictures I will have forever, and do I want to spend forever thinking to myself — why didn’t I get a dress I loved?

And with that, I vowed to go out shopping by myself and talk to no one about the new dress I would find…and my dress shopping saga continued!

Well, I like this dress! Maybe that’s because I bought one that is very very similar! Where did you find this one/what designer is? I got mine from a little shop that has an in-shop designer so it’s not really any sort of “name brand,” but I’d love to know who makes such a similar dress! Thanks!

I think that dress looks fabulous on you! And way to go, girl! Going out on your own because you know that your opinion and happiness is what really matters. I give you major props!!

I’m still not happy with the dress I chose, and it’s been 2 years since my wedding. I didn’t love my dress and I wished I followed my gut and purchased another dress I loved. How you feel in your dress makes a big difference in how your pictures turn out as well. If I can do it all again, I would’ve gone shopping alone and deal with myself only. Best of luck to you! and the dress you love is gorgeous!

I’ve tried on this dress before - ALfred Sung, right? How could you not feel fab in that dress, it is so fun and the material is sooo soft! Plus, it suits your figure to a “T”

This was my approach to both the dress and BM dresses - I go by myself , figure out what I like and dont like and then invite the gals out, mainly just so we can have that “girl time” dress shopping experience and less for their opinion (did I really just type that ?!)

Good luck with your decision!

That dress looks beautiful on you! How much was that Alfred Sung dress? It looks very luxurious. Can’t wait to see what you ultimately ended up choosing!

good for you! do what YOU want! These are the reasons I didn’t take my “crew” with me, it was my mom, my grandma, and aunt. I wouldn’t have changed it one bit!

I feel better now. I just planned a secret weekend of wedding dress shopping with a friend and not my MOH. As much as I love my MOH, we have very very different styles. I felt a bit guilty about this, but this validates my concern…I think she would push me to styles that aren’t me.

yea, i would do the same… just go shopping by yourself and then if and when you find the one, then maybe you can show people… or just surprise them all at the ceremony!

Pretty! If you like that one, you should try on the Lazaro one from 2 seasons ago, I think. I loved it and almost got it. Beautiful mermaid shape with georgeous beading. Everyone is right, your figure is perfect for a mermaid dress!
