Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Stamps and Stamps

August 10th, 2007 @ 12:31 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Now that we must start looking into getting stamps for the invitations and RSVP cards, I am really kind of bored with the wedding stamps we have the option of getting. What do I want? I want the Super Hero stamps!

How cool are these?

I’m serious, I totally want these. Would you be insulted at a bit of whimsy on the invitations you get? We’re not really going for a “serious” wedding. Sure, all weddings are serious in subject, but do you really have to be ultra-traditional in using the wedding stamps?

This lavender color doesn’t really “go” with our wedding. The vines are kind of cool, but who will really look at the stamp and go, “Oooh, a vine! Neat!”

The Okefenokee Swamp stamp is lovely, as well. At .69 cents for this international stamp, it is a little bit more than you would need to spend, but still very pretty.

Now that personalized stamps are getting more and more popular, you don’t have the USPS’s wedding stamps as your only option! What kind of stamps are you using?

Go for it. I’m getting those as well. And some Star Wars ones too if I can still get my hands on them.

My only regret is that those aren’t DC. The Wonderwoman ones were just so cool… ;)

Does it make you feel better to know that we’ll be using the brand-spanking new Yoda stamps for our RSVP envelopes? Like you, we had also given serious though to the super hero ones.

As Ned Flanders would say, use whichever you darn-diggity well want to. ;)

I’m sending my invitations as we speak - and they indeed, have SUPER HEROES on them…! My FI is at the comic book store every Wednesday so it totally fits with our personality - and we’re getting hitched in Palm Springs so it’s the kind of place that screams for some fun. My FMIL is a bit traditional, and so we got separate love stamps for her to play it safe. Everyone will love them.

Go for the Super Hero stamps! Coincidentally, I received a wedding thank-you note last night with the Hulk stamp on the envelope, and it totally made me smile. Of course I’m a girl who loves a bit of whimsy…

We had to send our invites out right around the time they were doing the switch - so our invites had Margaret Chase Smith a senator from VT, and our RSVP cards had pumas. Yep, An uknown lady in pearls, and a large cat. We still laugh about it!

I used the Superhero Stamps! I LOVE them. Not sure my invitees noticed though; they have yet to comment about the stamps.

I just mailed mine this week and would have loved vintage stamps but it didn’t work out. I ended up needing $.58 stamps and my choices were eleanor roosevelt and the love stamp. Neither were great and I really think both are kind of ugly but I ended up with the heart stamp. oh well…

I love that the forever stamps say “Forever” on them. Awwww…

Trivia: Only dead people appear on USPS-issued postage stamps.

We got 2 giant 100-stamp rolls of the .41 flag stamp, for use on the invite and response envelope.

For rehearsal dinner invites, we used some of the purple “wedding” stamps for no real reason (we only had like 12 invites though, so the other 8 went toward bills or thank yous).

Liberty stamps on my bridesmaid luncheon invites.

I was thinking of using personalized stamps for thank you’s but we’ve received 4 checks from people not attending the wedding already, and 2 gifts from people that are attending, so we’ve already sent thank you’s to them.

We spent a lot of time and energy selecting envelopes and conceptualizing our screenprint/printpress invitations - - I put equally as much thought into the stamps. Being not happy with the current stamp situation, I picked a few vintage stamps referencing california and love, and bought enough mint sheets on ebay to come up with the perfect artistic stamp configuration for our envelopes. Each Invite has (5) stamps, and each rsvp and thank you has (2) stamps each.

My favorite are the 20c LOVE stamps from the 60s or 70s where love is spelled out with different flower stems and buds…

Here is a digital compilation of our final stamp layout

I believe that our invitations were $0.86 to mail, but our stamps are good for $1.00 (As you can see I did incorporate the 58c pink heart into the mix)

It’s the year of the pig, and since my family are pig farmers we are using the “Year of the Pig” stamp (it’s a Canadian stamp)! They are so cute. http://www.shopcanadapost.ca/index.cfm?app=cart&a=list&categoryID=11

Those pink hearts just would not go with our blue invites, so we selected the Margaret Chase Smith stamps! She was the first woman to be elected to both the House AND the Senate! We thought it was a much better message to our guests. ;-)

I used the Forever stamps on the rsvps because, well, because I think it’s cool to say “Forever” on some part of the wedding stationery!
